BUT, modern death metal bores me to tears for the most part. it doesn't interest me at all to hear how fast and crazy and how many time signatures you can fit into 4 minutes. ...

The contemporary Gothenberg sound definitely shouldn't be labeled as death metal (to me, at least), but the older stuff is pretty damned cool, regardless of classification. There are still a few gems that are too catchy to deny. Scar Symmetry being one of them. Yeah, I like Scar Symmetry. Fuck you....

That's tough. Rhythmically, I prefer Death, but I like that Black is more open to experimentation, and has more depth and texture.
