Basically, you have to impress the promoter, since it's his show. Normally, only power- and progressive-metal bands need apply, although every year there are usually one or two 'oddball' bands that don't fit tidily into the mold.

The festival's two main nights (Fri. and Sat., 5 bands each) are pretty much reserved for international acts, or US bands with a sizeable following or genre label deal. It's become THE pre-eminent festival in the world for those genres.

On Thursday night (for what was called the pre-party, now it's called the "ProgPower USA Showcase"), things are a little more open for 'smaller' bands to play.

i think so too....it would suck if all songs sounded the same...the one we have up on the profile is the "simplest one" (no leads - just straight forward metal), the others are a bit more intricate.....
