metal radio listing

Post by BoB » Wed March 30th, 2005, 3:07 pm

I found this chart of metal radio shows in a number of markets across the country. It's from a big media monitoring company so I'm really surprised to see that they look at metal. Good to see that WREKage and We're Not Gonna Take It are recognized.

Sweet, though they got our times wrong.

And can't anyone come up with an original name anymore? Half the shows on that list are called either Metal Shop or some variation of "EXTREME!!!!!!", or Extreme Metal Shop.

What's that 'market rank' all about? Even weirder, how could both shows have the same rank in a market?

My guess would be that it's about the market reach of that station based on a national average. Notice that the highest ranks are stations in NY city and LA. So a show on a station of decent wattage in a major city is going to rank higher than a 5W station in the middle of nowhere.

Yep, I thought of that a bit later. It's probably 'potential market,' i.e., Atlanta is the 9th-largest radio market in the country.

It's also one of the worst in terms of commercial radio, but nevermind, we all knew that already.
