Ok, here's my two cents. I don't normally bother with threads like these, but since I was in Malefic for a while, I'm chiming in.
Malefic = awesome. Talented group of bastards right there. What they write and play is blackened death, which obviously has been done before, but so what? The song structures are very compositional and well crafted, and they played them pretty damn well. Devin, Adam and Pat all know their ways around their respective fretboards pretty fucking well, I'll say. Musicianship-wise, these guys are some of the better players I've known/seen in the Atlanta scene, along with several others.
Incarceri 9 = trying desperately to be original and different, and failing miserably at it. This sounds like a very half-ass attempt of a nu metal band trying to be heavier than the genre calls for, and can't pull it off. A Berklee graduate shouldn't be playing guitar like he just learned the basic scales a few weeks ago. And a word of advice, if you don't like our scene, although you guys are FROM it, don't fucking play here. Book shows elsewhere. I guarantee you nobody here will miss you if you quit playing Atlanta. Don't get on camera with your Incarceri 9 n' Pals approach, and talk shit about your home scene. Not fucking smart.
Our scene isn't the best in the country, of course, but it's still there, and it has spit out several bands that are pretty worthy of mentioning, like Malefic, and several others. Don't like it? Get the fuck out. Take your out of tune nu metal horrid half-assed shit band somewhere else.
