7th grade, 1994 or so... I was looking for something a little heavier than Nirvana, eventually found Tool, Pantera, Slayer, and Metallica (in that order), then met a kid named Ray in my English class that year who, the first time I met him, had on a Samhain t-shirt with Danzig and the other guys covered in blood. I thought that was the coolest shit I'd ever seen, and eventually he introduced me to Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, and death metal in general. Then I got my first real kiss from his girlfriend, stole him away from her, and he never really taliked to me again.

SO THE TRUTH FINALLY COMES OUT!!!!!!! :P

I guess I was 8 or 9 when the metal seeds got planted (I'm 22 now). I got into Metallica's black album through my sister. She was quite the trendhopper so a month later she wasn't into it, but I kept going with it and completed my metallica tape collection not too long after. I watched Headbangers Ball religiously (at this point the show kinda sucked, but I didnt know any better) and the ball kept rolling....

First concert was Danzig, Type O Negative (when they were actually good), and Godflesh. My mom took me as my 11th birthday present.

First death metal show was a Wrekage benefit show in 97 with Narcolepsy, Laceration, Necroflesh...cant' remember anyone else.

I dont count when I was in 5th and 6th grade when I listened to Korn and stuff like that. So about when I was in 9th grade is when I started to really get into it. Bands like Cauldron Born, Megadeth, Helstar, Omen, ect... The more traditional stuff. And other bands too like Kreator, Destruction, Witchburner, and I was in 9th grade playing at the Somber Reptile when I first graced my ears with Cryptopsy.

I guess my metal inception was about 7th grade or so, My friend bought a guitar and was decent at it, so I went to his house and his next door neighbor was a insane drummer with this huge pearl kit and he immediately showed us alot of the Iron Maiden and Dream Theater Albums. He showed me one of the death albums, I think it was either symbolic or Individual Thought Patterns and that was what I listened to for like 2 months straight. I was obsessed with Iron Maiden from the start but when I really started to get into metal seriously was when I saw a live bootleg of Opeth's "Forest of October", I had never really experienced a long song or the death metal vocals so I didnt really know what to think. Eventually I found them to be pretty unique and in 8th grade I started buying their albums along with the likes of In Flames (Black Ash inheritance : jester race), In the summer of 8th and ninth grade I bought Nile's "Black Seeds of Vengance" record without knowing what it was like and really got into it. Im probably leaving out some monumental aspect but who cares.

My first metal show was a Opeth concert at the Masquerade about four or 5 years ago. Since then I have enjoyed going around and experiencing new acts and people trying to create something new. Sometimes there is always a diamond in the ruff or a pleasant suprise like Domination Through Impurity was for me when they played swayzes back in 2004 before their record was released, I really enjoyed that concert as well.

my older brother got me into metal at the ripe age of six. i turned six in '86 and my brother had got reign in blood and master of puppets so thats what i listened to going to sleep b/c we shared a room. then i got really into anthrax, suicidal tendencies, sepultura......etc...etc....
i'll cut it off there b/c i've posted my story on here more than a few times.

my first real show was fear factory and type o negative back in 95 or 96. it was type o's tour but fear factory was supporting "demanufacture" and i was all about that album. on top of that, type 'o played a bunch of carnivore songs, which i was into. so that show was a great first show.

I was in fifth grade... my bro listened to shit like cannibal corpse/pantera/ slayer/ and Deicide all the time... i had no choice but to like it because it was all i ever heard. Then i lost sight in metal... 9th grade rolls around and my friend shows me Dimmu Borgir... that was the end of NIN, Manson, and Korn for me... I had found the evil impurity i was always looking for but never found.
oh fuck-off world i'll get you yet!

I guess I got on the boat pretty late.

My mom was into Metallica when I was in 7th/8th grade, so that was pretty much the extent of that.

When I was a freshman in high school, I dated this kid Greg Tatum, whose best friend was Leremy Wade (who I think some of you know - I saw him at the AxDx show at the I-Defy house last winter for the first time since high school).
I hung out with those dudes non-stop, & I remember they were always listening to D.R.I. & Deicide.
They also introduced me to WREKage in it's death metal period, so I listened to that on Friday nights.

Haha, I actually went to that show, but didnt go inside... I won tickets on Wrekage, but they didnt have my name on the list at the Masquerade when we got there. I don't know why, but I just went home instead of seeing the show. I really regret it now since you say Type O played Carnivore songs...but I didn't hear Carnivore until a year and a half or so later so it wouldn't have mattered to me at the time anyways.

* Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Ozzy - ~1983. I grew up in Pittsburgh and about everyone I knew was into that kinda stuff
* got into various punk & hardcore for awhile to rebel against the common stuff mentioned above
* friend gave me a tape ~ 1987 side A: Metallica Master of Puppets side B: Slayer Reign in Blood. that was my metal baptism, confirmation, etc all rolled into one.

that crap has happend to me a few times. for a few years straight i was on every metal show's guestlist b/c i would just go to wrekage and write my name down in the book. and every now and then the masquerade either wouldn't have the list or the jackasses working the box office wouldn't even look for it.

i sat outside a Gorguts show once for like an hour and half b/c they kept telling me they were "getting a manager to track down the list". i was so ed i wanted to drive my truck through the box office shack.

hell, i was on the guestlist for the Slayer/Sick Of It All/Messugah(if i was more of a fan i could spell it...sorry) show and they didn't have the list at the tabernacle. that time i was on the WGHR guestlist though.
