I'm really about sick to death with all the remakes..
If its not a shot for shot remake.. then call it something different..

The Dawn "remake" was okay.. good for what it was.. but I didn't really think of it as a remake.

(Don't make me pull out the soapbox and get on remakes)

With all the great stories/books etc out there.. and the best they can do is a bunch of remakes.

As a fan of zombie movies.. I hope it is good. Maybe if it does well, they'll make others that are original.
Out for Kicks and In for Trouble..

Uh, have you ever seen a shot for shot remake?
You know, like Van Sant's Psycho?
That was a flaming piece of shit compared to the original.
You can't fucking copy genius, you have to remake it your own way (which doesn't even happen most of the time).

i hate the remakes about as much as possible but i have to give credit to the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake. that was one of the only remakes that haven't been a pile of teeny bopper garbage. not to mention JAMES GUNN is an awesome writer/director and really made the DAWN remake work on all levels..........for me at least.

GUNN also did SLITHER which i think is amazing.

I dunno..
John Carpenter's THE THING was great.. That's the way to do a remake..
I guess if you do a remake.. make it worth a shit.
which for some reason, as previously stated, rarely happens.

But yes, I agree, you can't copy genius.. no matter how much money you throw at it..

I think what put me over the edge on the remake thing was when I heard about the Creature From The Black Lagoon remake..

The Thing WAS fucking awesome.

Doing something like Creature from the Black Lagoon is like trying to make Dracula or Frankenstein actually scary in this day and age (a lot of the retellings of the old movie-monsters have been set as dramas in my opinion). It will probably just end up being cheesey.

I wouldnt mind seeing an up to date Dracula film done well, not like that shitty movie set in New Orleanes. Bram Strokers Dracula was pretty good. Anything with Anthony Hopkins is good I guess.

You can make Dracula, Frankenstein, wolfman, mummy movies by the dozens.. you can take those stories.. and really do your own take with them.. I'd love to see it.
You can do so much more than a film to cash in on a title and legacy.

I love the classic Universal. I think they translate well to this day, if the viewer can get over the age factor.

I just think you could come up with 1000000000 different scripts and titles for a monster in a river chasing "pretty girls" and killing guys that get in the way..

Bram Stokers' Dracula was good.. Gary Oldman is a terrific actor..
Maybe that's what films are lacking.. actual actors.. not stars..

that's a damn good point.

you know that back in the old days (like even the silent film days) that the actors were not named...it was all about the director or producer.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???
