So does Metal Archives piss anyone else off?

Post by ScreamBloodyGore » Mon September 15th, 2008, 12:19 am

I love the site itself. Great information and it archives practically every metal band in existence. It's the goddamn reviews that kill me, and cause me to cry tears of blood.

Now, I'm intelligent enough to actually read the reviews and weed out the ignoramuses, but simply because too many people base their purchases/downloads on the drivel of a fourteen-year-old who's capable of ruining what's often times an incredible albums overall score simply because he has half a brain, an internet connection, and three minutes to kill, I'd often rather have the site wiped clean from the internet. It infuriates me. Infuriates me to the point of writing this thread. For far too long I've set idly by, allowing morons to run rampant on the internet. But no more, atlantametalforums.net. Action shall be taken!

Oh, I know, but when it affects my metal, I takes it seriously.

Oh, yeah, I know.

Luckily God graced me with both tolerance and intelligence.

And this impeccable sense of humor.

Do you want to mention some specific albums? I'm curious. I thought for the most part the MA folks reject the kinds of reviews you're talking about. I've written one review there, and they rejected it the first time. That surprised me, actually, but I rewrote the review and it probably was better for it.

Dodheimsgard - Supervillian Outcast
Reviews:
Unlistenable - 33%
And now for something completely different. - 74%
Can't get much worse than this - 5%

Wintersun - Wintersun
Reviews:
Penguin Eggs and Permafrost - 36%
Amazing Blend of Styles - 100%
Wintersun - 100%
....Seriously? - 55%
Beauty and Brutality - 96%
Perfect? Not A Chance - 24%

Darkthrone - NWOBHM
Reviews:
New Wave of Bullshit Heavy Metal - 39%
Views from Valhalla Heights - 90%
I'll Be Skipping the Next Full Lenght - 40%

See what I mean? Regardless of how poor an album is, and unless it was engineered by a classroom of deaf children, you cannot possibly attempt to justify a score of 24%. Especially with the examples I posted.

Edit - Notice how much more professional the review titles become with the lower scores.

Not to mention UltraBoris' review of Master of Puppets, which he deemed "The album that killed heavy metal" and gave a 0%.

Yeah, I love and hate Metal Archives at the same time.

There's so much pompous bullshit elitism on that site, it's ridiculous. But, I do use the site a lot, simply for information, which it has plenty of.

theres some dumb stuff about metal-archives, with the bands they accept, theres a lot of wierd bands on there, example, amoebic dysentery is on there but they took last days of humanity off, they have bands like ed gein but took down dillinger escape plan, they have screaming afterbirth but reject foetopsy for not being metal, i added leechmilk and they rejected it then like a year later someone put it in and it got accepted, its totally wierd and biased towards diff styles.
your church was turned into an abortion clinic and we use it all the time... sluts!!!

I would guess that is because they have a whole team of mods who accept different bands, I've submitted a band and had it get rejected only to submit it again shortly after to have it be accepted.
The madness comes from the tastes and opinions of the mods most likely.

I think I remember hearing about Impetigo not being accepted to this site a few years ago, which that makes it ultimately FALSE.
