William Grim, the conservative writer who was responsible for the now-infamous anti-heavy metal <a href='http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... emID=30375' target='_blank'>article</a> on the The Iconoclast web site, has posted the following entry (dated Dec. 18, 2004) to his Flyover Country Chronicles <a href='http://flyovercountrychronicles.blogspo ... chive.html' target='_blank'>blog:</a>
"We live in such culturally benighted times that there are even some political conservatives who will defend the existence of heavy metal ? a quasi-musical performance art that is overwhelmingly homoerotic in origin, indicative of immaturity and alienation, emotionally and psychologically stunted, and overwhelmingly anti-family, anti-society, anti-religion, and anti-intellectual in orientation. Ironically, the sale of heavy metal CDs is also the chief way by which funds are raised for both American and European neo-Nazi political organizations. Of course, the barbaric, tribal aspect of heavy metal bespeaks a socialist, rather than conservative, Weltanschauung.

It would be difficult to believe that this guy was not at one time a metalhead.
Offended as I may be by such arguments, I enjoy reading this kind of thing. I'm not afraid, as I was in high school, that metal might one day be "regulated" or even banned (Tipper actually had me worried, back in the day). All the hubbub of the eighties brought about but two results: Marilyn Manson and parental advisory stickers. The former, an over-the-top reaction to the authoritarian anti-metal movement, and the latter, a pathetic gesture which accomplished nothing, are two things I can live with (read: ignore).
But thanks for the link, Miss D. I'll add this to my "wingnut" file.

hatred and death!! hatred and death!!
Count me among the alienated, yet somehow occultist brainwashed minions of metal.
And I resent very highly the remark about the anti-intellectual agenda of metal. Metalheads can be every bit as enlightening and insightful as those die-hard fans of Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson, who undoubtedly draw rave reviews from conservative crowds.

Yeah whenever anyone criticizes metal for its unintelligent lyrics, I always wonder about these people finding themselves at a point where they need answers in life so they run to the music store for answers... :wh4cky:
All this means is that metal has picked up enough steam, again, to garner criticism.

When I hear the name Mandy Moore I hear Bukakke.
All this means is that metal has picked up enough steam, again, to garner criticism. [/quote]
