Any bands interested in playing at a festival in the future?

Post by CPrins » Thu April 16th, 2009, 11:00 pm

Hey everyone, let me start off by saying that I am not a promoter, but I know people who are and have people who can help me with this. Anyway, sometime in the future I would really like to put on a metal festival preferably at like the Masq Music Park (Although I have no idea how much they would charge to rent it or if they would even rent it at all). I want this thing to be a METAL ONLY festival that will help promote the local bands and possibly I can find some bands from out of state that would play too. I would like to get as many bands as possible and maybe make this thing go for 2 days. I was just curious before I actually start saving up for something like this if your band or know of a band that would be interested in doing something like this. Let me know if you would be because I am really serious about putting this together. Thanks.

Thats the thing. Im not completely sure yet. But it definitely wont be this year. I am not like officially booking bands now, I am just seeing if there would be any bands who would like to do this sort of thing.

Your idea sounds like a pretty big undertaking. If you don't have any experience doing shows, I would maybe get my feet wet doing smaller local shows and booking smaller touring bands. A metalfest with local bands sounds like a good idea, but realistically a show like that isn't going to draw thousands of people, unless you have a mega-huge headliner or several known bands playing that will draw people.

This would be really cool...it has been done in the past but not for 2 days. I think the last one was the Utter Destruction fest at Breakers a few years back. There were lots of local bands playing and it was for a good portion of the day. It didn't daw thousands by any means but it was still pretty cool. And then there was Scion of course but you know, they have lots of money so I'm sure it was easy for them to do. And not to mention, they flew in bands from all over the world too.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about Sludgefest. That was about 3 years ago. There were alot of bands for that and that was at the Masquerade...I think they used Hell and Purgatory for that. I can't remember if Heaven was used.

Good luck with this! I've gone to these before so I'll be there 8)
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

It would be cool. But if youre planning on paying for it be prepared to spend thousands ands thousands of dollars.

Good luck, this is probably way more of an endeavor than you think.

I honestly don't think doing a 2-day festival is a wise endeavor unless you have a real reason to do so.

Also as has been stated above, you're not going to draw tons of people unless you can secure a National or two to headline. That will also help to get people to stick around as opposed to just watching the band that they came to see and then leaving.

That said, depending on how it shapes up, my band may be interested in playing it if it happens.

Keep an eye on the Devilneck Metalfest at Lenny's in August for guageing a draw for a local fest. I'm guessing that would be a pretty good indicator. It's a full three day event and I'll be curious to see what the turnout is like.

The lineup doesn't appear to be 100% confirmed, but it looks like we can expect Black Tusk, Withered, Hell Comes to Town, Zoroaster, Sourvein, etc. (I of course realize what the most metal of heads probably think of the lineup so far). Sounds like a pretty good time though...three whole days worth no less.
