Greatest band to come outta jawjuh
metal, folks. anyone who types "REM" gets crapped on by Knucklehead. For me it's neck & neck:
hallows eve
necropolis
anyone remember threshold of pain? Seems like they played every 20 mins.

And I just got back from Raging Burrito. So beware.VOEGTLIN wrote: anyone who types "REM" gets crapped on by Knucklehead.
"Greatest" is kind of a loaded term as there isn't really a way to measure greatness... or rather, theres many ways. National notariety, number of releases, record sales, etc.
Barring all that my favorite band from GA is definitely Quadiliacha, though they aren't entirely metal. Theres a lot of good ones, not really sure I could term one the "greatest."

I'm not from around here, so take this all with a grain of salt.
I bought Death and Insanity when it came out, but I have to say that I wasn't all that excited about it. I suppose it would be different if they were locals made good. Which they obviously were. Just not my locals.
Off the top of my head, I'd probably say Withered.
Or Artimus Pyledriver. I know most people here thought they were shit, but I really enjoyed their shows.

It was a big deal. Skipped school to see River's Edge. When "Lethal Tendencies" started, the whole fucking place erupted... I'm old.Knucklehead wrote:I bought Death and Insanity when it came out, but I have to say that I wasn't all that excited about it. I suppose it would be different if they were locals made good. I was at that show. I remember Jello mentioning something about "crossover" metal and asking the crowd what they thought about it. Haha. It was about a 50/50 split. Wasn't Neon Christ also on that bill? They were sounding a bit metal towards the end there too.VOEGTLIN wrote:I only saw ToP once, and that was when they opened for Dead Kennedys.
Yeah, they were. I saw them quite a bit, too. Most of the time with COC. Pretty awesome. Hail, Metroplex.sleyja wrote:I was at that show. Yes, you are old. The movie freakin' rocked. We found out about it because it was the only offering in the BMG or Columbia eleven-records-for-a-penny catalog that had Slayer.VOEGTLIN wrote:Skipped school to see River's Edge.

Aaaaanyway, I can completely see how the theater would have gone nuts. That particular song, I think, is a freakin' classic. Somehow, I always forget about it and only remember the title track.
Alright:
In terms of notariety and success - Mastodon
In terms of being unique and having a long string of quality releases - Kylesa
In terms of being fast and heavy - Withered
Kylesa and Withered also get points for being born from other awesome bands.
It's really impossible for me to pick just one because I like them all for different reasons
