I don't know why the drums are in front of the guitars or why the King's vocals are soaked in chorus, reverb and other shit that makes them painfully trebly. I'll take early Mercyful Fate any day. Sucks. I'd love to have more KD to dig on.
I like Them! I love the first three: Fatal Portrait, Abigail, and Them. Abigail is classic.
I really wanted to like it, but it was actually painful with how much high end is layered on the vocals. I'll try those other two again, it's been a while.

Iron Maiden -- "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

I probably haven't had this song in five years or more. The iPod shuffled to it today and it took me right back to 1984 or so, when I discovered this album. It gave me freakin' chills.

My fave song on Number by far.

I got this on cassette before a family beach trip around '83. Stayed in the condo and listened to it on headphones while they all went to the beach. I did this for like four days. I found a copy of The Shining on the shelf and read that while I listened to Number. Came back from that trip a very different young man...

Maiden and Stephen King -- does it get anymore early '80's than that?

Kvelertak.

Their S/T is my album of the year, I'm gutted I waited so long to get it, all those missed hours when I was listening to something that wasn't Kvelertak.

OFF! - The First Four EPs

This is shredding, simple old school in the early Black Flag vein, which is no surprise considering the line-up: Keith Morris, Steven McDonald and some other old school Cali guys. Fucking brilliant, brilliant record. It's catchy as fuck, but without being annoying. Get into it.

Winterfylleth - The Mercian Sphere

But nothing this year really stood out to me as the most amazing album without a doubt or anything.
