This topic has me thinking. I listened to a few bands months ago that were considered country but in a whole different way and I dug the vibe and melodies. I have to search now, thanx...
P.S. found it, Uncle Tupelo. Don't know if this counts as gothic country though.

Tupelo! I remember from a Dairy Queen trivia night that that's where Elvis was born.
It will remain engraved in my mind forever. I shouldn't have missed that question. We could've fucking won.

somewhat related- i recently saw a pretty cool film that had david eugene edwards in it, along with the handsome family and some others called "searching for the wrong eyed jesus". really good.
