Bought a pair of Sony MDR-V50 like 15 years ago at CVS for $20. I thought it was an outrageous price then. I use them ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

No turntable, yet: I need a house to put it in, first.Moloc wrote:I got a pair of Skullcandy for $40 at Best Buy. I probably paid too much, but I love them. They have their own volume control, which is handy, too.
Did you ever get a turntable btw?
Thanks for all the input. FWIW, I ended up going with the ATH-M50's.
Nothing jackass about those at all. Over-the-ear headphones are the best there are. I'm quite disappointed in the average retail market of headphones. You used to be able to buy a well built pair of over-the-ear headphones with actual cone drivers made of a nice thick paper-like material for reproducing bass and midrange tones as well as producing plenty of volume. These days, all you can find at most regular retail stores like walmart or even Best Buy are made with cheap crappy little plastic diaphragms that crackle and distort at higher volumes, don't reproduce lower frequencies worth a fuck, and sound like you duct taped two cheap clock radios to your head.egg yolkeo wrote:Ive got the Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional Headphones very affordable 21 bucks on amazon, not to big or small with good sound
but if you dont mind looking like a jackass spend a little more and get these

best bang for the buck but I sent mine back because they just looked to big.
both come with 1/4 adapter
If you want good sound, always read the back of the packaging and pick the model made with REAL driver cones made from speaker material and whichever one of those with the highest frequency range. If you're writing and recording your own music at home on a PC, there's no substitute for a good well-made pair of headphones. Good studio monitor speakers are nice, but you can hear it a lot better and know which tracks need volume tweaking within the mix when the sound is closer to your eardrum.
