Cabin Fever, Recommended Cures
So, I've been living in the vicinity of the Hamilton Mill exit, Hoschton is the address, but I'm not really near Hoschton proper. I joined up on here in hopes of meeting like minded people. Not necessarily trying to find people to hang out with, but to at least discover what's around my area that I might enjoy. I gotta admit, the few places I have gone into are pretty lame unless you like Nickelback cover bands or something similarly terrible. Can anyone recommend some places to visit in Buford, Dacula, Lawrenceville, or nearby? I know getting closer to Atlanta would open more options, but most of the time I have to take a cab to go out for beers and I don't want to get too far away from the house. So basically I've been bored out of my mind. Anywhere with good live music is fine. It doesn't have to be metal, as long as it is somewhere that might have respectable bands that at least give a shit about what they do. Loud is good, though. I know there are lots of posts for local shows etc, but I can't google every location in every post. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there's a whole lot up that way that would interest you. Sweetwater Bar is near Lawrenceville and that might be the closest thing to you. They have metal bands play there sometimes but most of the time those 'metal' bands are crappy nu-metal lol It's still a cool place though. Your best bet would be to just say fuck it and make the trek on down to Atlanta every so often (doesn't have to be every weekend; maybe like twice a month or something). You can always get a room somewhere too. I've known a few folks who have stayed at The Highland Inn for shows before since they also don't want to make the hour drive back home! They don't do that all the time, just every once in a while. Or you can get to know someone and crash at their place!
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. I guess so far I have been a little hesitant to seek stuff downtown since I don't know my way around to well. I did drive over the road for a while, so I can find stuff, I just don't know if there are areas where I might find a cool joint or a show going on where I might not want to be wandering around too much unarmed. I'll have a peek at your suggestions for sure. The place in Lawrenceville might be good for in between ATL adventures.

Hey, a lot of this will be off topic, but i posted some ATL 101 shit in this thread: http://forum.atlantametal.net/viewtopic ... hlight=l5p.
In short, Little Five Points (especially El Myr), East ATL and the Highlander in Midtown are good spots for meeting folks, shopping and seeing or finding out about shows. Ponce de Leon between North Highland and Peachtree is the main artery for cool ATL.
Updates: Archive Gallery is a new-ish DIY spot and Reactionary Records is gone.
