The first one was actually more of a serious horror. I didnt see any of the comedic bits in it like the sequels did. Hell, even watching it on video tape look like a snuff flick than you would see on a DVD.

Resurrecting this topic to say that the remake of Evil Dead is legit as fuck and seriously kicks major ass. Excellent effects, only one, ONE brief and inconsequential use of cgi, amazing gore, awesome possessions/deadites, cool music, great camera work, and plenty of nods and cues to/from the original without being pure fan service or disrupting the feel. I am a pretty staunch horror nazi, and honestly I could not be happier with the new Evil Dead.

See it? I'd say YES. for the first time ever I plan on multiple theater viewings

Yeah it was a lot better than I expected , I like the raining blood scene even if it wasnt from a lacerated sky, the blood in general looked good, I like the fact it was less campy I don't like humor and horror mixed, I'm just not a big fan of comedy at all if it doesn't involve Christopher Guest. The only thing I didn't like about it was the tree rape wasn't enough of a rape in this one and more just a non-consensual slither.

SPOILER ALERT:

I'm disappointed they didn't perform all three methods of "cleansing": live burial, dismemberment, AND cleansing by fire. I was also disappointed that Mia was returned to full health after being possessed for the whole flick. I also was hoping for a similar ending to the original where the portal back in time opens up to set the stage for Army of Darkness--which I hear they're also redoing sometime soon.

I did love the nail gun scene though. You knew that in tn he beginning when they first used the power tool for its normal function that it would play a bigger role later in the film.

pretty sure they did do all 3 methods of cleansing. live burial was definitely in there, cleansing by fire was at the beginning. dismemberment was at the very end.

Yeah, but I wanted them to all be performed on Mia. I thought the book said that the get rid of the possession that all three had to be done on the same person: first live burial, then dismemberment and then finally cleansing by fire. I wanted to see Mia's dug up, dismembered torso being cleansed by fire.
