Glad you like it. All three Ahab full lengths (and the elusive EP) are fantastic, but The Call of the Wretched Sea really is one of my favorite recordings of all time. I have so many favorites among that whole subgenre (Esoteric, Colosseum [RIP], Thergothon, Paramaecium, Ataraxie, Abstract Spirit, Comatose Vigil, Loss, Mournful Congregation, Evoken, Aglaomorpha, Disembowelment, Funeralium, etc.), but that first Ahab record stands alone in my opinion.Thrashmania wrote:Today I listened to The Call of the Wretched Sea by Ahab, and it ruled my goddamn face.
Thanks Tommy.

Just put those Ahab albums on the iPod, put Evoken and Disembowelment back on there after over a year out of the spin cycle...then a whole pile of more thrash. These 13 hour days really let me sit and listen to shit, it's one advantage. Will have to grab some of that other stuff when I've got more than a few minutes.MS_39455 wrote:Glad you like it. Edit: Oh, and Prodigy...talking about electronic stuff at the show made me think of them. I will surely regret this decision.

I will say though. It is a pretty fitting experience to be 1 of 3 people in the office, with all the lights off minus the glow of computer monitors, blasting funeral doom in the head phones. This lasts for about 3 hours, then the crushing reality of where I am and what is ACTUALLY happening come straight down on my skull.

On the way to camp, the kids relentlessly request "Iron Man" and "Into the Void". They actually bicker over which one they want to hear, because they each have their favorite. Those are both songs I love: "Iron Man" is pretty much the song that turned me on to metal. But you *can* have too much of a good thing and I need a break.
So I played "Children of the Sea" for them today. (The little boy told me he prefers "Into the Void". It's about rockets, you know.) I played the studio version for them, but the live one is the first that I heard. I think it is better, to be honest, and I ended up listening to that one at work.
There are worse things that having "Children of the Sea" stuck in your head.
