all that really matters is that the chronicles of narnia are a kick ass set of books. no argument there.

Totally agree; they're great. I'm actually looking forward to the movie since the preview looked interesting. Hope they do the books some justice.

Imajica by Clive Barker is brilliant....part SF, part fantasy, part splatterpunk horror. There was supposed to be a movie coming out but I haven't heard anythng lately.

Personally that's one of my favorite movies. Yes the rain at the end is corny, but overall I really like it, the music too.

Did you see the Sci-Fi Channel's adaptation? I never did and wonder how it is. I think I read bad reviews.
Totally better. I own it on DVD. Like I said, the Lynch's version looks pretty cool, but I still feel that the Sci-Fi Channel version was better.

One of my favorite authors. American Gods is probably my favorite by him.

I gotta check out that Sci Fi Dune movie. All the color in that movie kinda turned me off, which I know sounds silly, but its actually part of why I never got around to checking it out.

Yeah i like American Gods the best too.

Yeah I know what you mean about the color, but its really good. It's the cinematographer from Apocalypse Now and the Last Emperor, so he knows what he's doing.

The greatest book Ive read is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something unbelievably original and smart. Its an alternate interpretation of the book of Genesis and makes a convincing argument in a cool story. I hope someone will read it and can tell me what they think.

Really cool guy.

Storm Constantine, my Brit author friend and I (plus her then-boyfriend) once spent about three hours on Neil Gaiman's hotel-room floor, trying to get comfortable while watching an early copy of Neil's show Neverwhere with about 20 other people. That was cool. After three hours we had to beg off, though, since we were getting cramps on top of pre-existing cramps. :)

Neil is also responsible for one of the nicest, yet controversial, blurbs about Storm C.: "I'd rather have one Storm Constantine than a dozen Anne Rices." Which is cool, but tends to piss off the Anne Rice fans. All 10 of them, nowadays.

Ah cool, I have that book but haven't read it yet. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I have read his book After Dashau and that was pretty good.

Shroedinger's Cat - Robert Anton Wilson

American Psycho - Brett Easton Ellis

The Psychology of Man's Possible Evolution - Peter D. Ouspkensky

I guess those are the books that come to mind first.

THE GREAT DIVORCE - C.S. Lewis
HAUNTED - Chuck Palahniuk

both really good books. C.S. Lewis is probably my favorite writer. he is great at both non-fiction and fiction......super smart and imaginitive guy. Chuck Palahniuk is just brilliantly twisted.
yeah, clive staples lewis stuff is really revelatory. "the great divorce" is kickass. i read it once every couple of years, just in case i missed something the time before (same with all of his other stuff). check out "out of the silent planet", "perelandra", and "that hideous strength", preferably in that order.

beside him, my favorite author is greg bear, if you like mindtrip sci-fi. i'd say start with "blood music", "forge of god", or "eon".

if you're a fan of the concept of space elevators like i am, dig "the fountains of paradise" by arthur c clarke
"coming up next . . . nothing" - rhyner

i started reading perelandra a while back but decided to wait until i had read out of the silent planet first. perelandra was still very interesting by itself but knowing that there was a book before it made me want to read them in order.
