Fucking hell, I've been contemplating getting one of those. What kind was it and how long did it last? And once it dies, is there any way to retrieve the data (other than re-ripping your CD collection)?

Western Digital MyBook, picked it up in November 2006. It really depends on how the drive dies, but in my case there was no hope in getting data back. You definitely don't want to ever hear a loud clicking sound coming out of them.

You NEED to get their 2nd album, Dismantling Devotion now. It's an amazing album.
