I only do circle pits these days, and those still bruise me up good.

circle pits are good. I don't mind going into those at all. you usually don't find too many assholes in there...at least in my experiences.
@Strange -

it's sad cause it's true! When I first started going into pits, there was none of this bullshit (karate kids and deliberate violence) but as time goes on, there seems to be more and more of it.
I do find myself not going into pits as much as I used to because of all this. I really don't feel like getting kicked in the face, you know?
@Chaos - yes, please do tell what you mean!
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

pits are less violent these days and my personal opinion is you shouldn't get into them if you aren't willing to get punched, kicked, elbowed, knee'd, knocked down or bloodied up. If you aren't up for all that just stay away from them.......it really doesn't make you any less of a fan.
and as far as "Dancing" goes, it was really only annoying to me when all the guys doing it bitched about people moshing. the arguments are the same on both sides. Dancers think that moshers are just trying to hurt people and moshers think the exact opposite. If everyone just had a good time and made sure that they were protecting themselves in the process the whole thing would self regulate. Pits have always regulated themselves. If you see someone throwing punches at absolutely nothing and just having a good time stay away from them.......if you see someone throwing punches at someone in anger kick the shit out of them and get back to having a good time.
Personally I just watch shows these days. I'm too old, too fat and it just doesn't appeal to me anymore to get into a pit.

The kind of moshing youre referring to isnt what hardcore kids do. Its like saying As I Lay Dying is a true brutal death metal band. But do you really think push mosh looks any less retarded than the other? Im open for both and kids doing what they want because its all in fun, but you cant step back and look at both and say one looks more retarded than the other.
In that light...more stage dives. I will never understand why kids at metal shows stand up front and get so mad when they get dove off of or their head stomped on. Stand in the back if youre a bitch. I cant count how many times ive dove on kids and they said they were going to fight me. None of them ever have.
With what Blaze said, the pit intensity has died down a lot since I started going to metal shows, which hasnt been more than 8 or 9 years. It seems like people either get pissed when someone bumps into them or they will hit someone and run away. Again, stand in the back if youre a bitch. I can remember being like 13 and moshing and stage diving through out the whole show and no one thinking anything of it.

then the battle goes on. Everyone knows if you get in a mosh pit you might get hurt, THATS NOT THE PROBLEM. If your swinging your arms and karate kicking your way through the pit then prepare to get slammed into the ground because NO ONE likes to be around that douche bag. I think I would want to punch the motherfucker back if he punched me! like i said there is the occasional accident but if your escalating from PUSHING to PUNCHING!!!! Sorry but theres a difference there in my book. who knows maybe its a pussy defense mechanism so know one wants to get around them, get in a fight, and fuck up a good show cause of some dumb ass Spaz. JUST KEEP IT FUN. and yes the circle pits RULE.

Agreed. I have no problem with stage diving. I will say I don't like when people crowd surf from behind cause you are just watching the band and next thing you know you a huge boot nails you in the head and almost knocks you unconscious. That shit pisses me off. At least with stage diving you can see the person about to jump on your head and you at least get a second to react.

eh I don't really like stage dives too much. it fucking hurts when you have a 200+ lb man land on top of your head. a friend of mine had his jaw broken at a Terror show a few months ago when a stagediver came right into his face, so i've been a lot more careful when i'm in the front ever since that happened.

agreed. if you want to do karate kicks, keep that shit in the hardcore moshpits, not death metal ones. I've gotten hurt plenty of times ON ACCIDENT! I just hate assholes who deliberately hurt others and most of the times, you don't see it coming until it's too late.

Haha This is why I haven't done any headwalking/stage diving since I was your size. Now I'd hate to even think of the consequences of my fat ass hurtling toward unsuspecting metalheads. But to those whose weight can actually be sustained by those below, more power to ya!
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!

I remember back about 10-15 yrs ago the pits were brutal, even if the turnout for a show was fairly weak. You always had skinheads, white power guys, violent straightedge guys, fratboys, metalheads, punks and the satanic mexicans. You talk about getting the shit knocked out of you, that was a recipe for an asskickin. Even still, the pits were self regulating and if someone got knocked down someone picked their ass up. If someone got pissed b/c they got smashed and tried to throw some punches, they got the shit kicked out of them by everyone around. People danced back then too and they threw punches and kicks through the air, the skinheads stomped and elbowed and knocked the shit out of anyone in their way, the fratboys had football practice, the punks and metalheads skanked and skipped in circles and IT WASN'T A GOOD SHOW UNLESS YOUR ASS WAS BLEEDING!
point being, its a pit, its supposed to be violent. if you have a problem with that then you should probably stay away from it.

I think everyone agrees on this. "Good friendly violent fun," as it was once put.

Ive heard of a lot worse happening at Terror shows but it still sucks. At their shows, especially when they dont play at the masquerade, its constant stage dives all tonight.

I generally stay away from pits. I'm 6'0 and 150 pounds. I'm too scrawny and lanky to be in that mess. I could easily be thrown around like a piece of luggage at an airport, and have my face caved in by a 300-lb skinhead or something. Or I could easily fuck up a wrist, and then I'd have to take a drumming hiatus, and that's definitely no bueno.
