Criminal has the new Twilight. I just picked it up. Listening to it while driving through rush hour traffic wasn't exactly most conducive to critical analysis, but I can safely say that it sounds almost nothing like the first album. It's heavier and a little trippier, and was probably written mostly by the Nachtmystium guy. My initial reaction was, "this sounds like Assassins: Black Meddle pt. 2." And there's a lot more of the spaced out Isis-type sound to it.

And the barcode is printed in such a way that makes it impossible to scan, so if you buy it at Criminal, you'll have to tell the band name to the Weezer-looking dude behind the counter, because, as he said, "I can't read 'metal.'"

I just noticed that in the booklet Robert Lowe is credited with vocals. Assuming this is the Robert Lowe from Solitude Aeturnus, I can't find any evidence of his being on this album. There are some vaguely clean vocals in the first track; maybe that's him. Why they would feature his voice in an unobtrusive way is beyond my comprehension.

Sadly this album is kind of boring so it may take a while before I bother to go listening for Lowe again.

/me NP: Twilight - (Monument to Time End) - "Fall Behind Eternity" [06:49/09:45]

If anything this was written mostly by Aaron Turner with varying degrees of input from the other members, Azentrius probably foremost, but taking a back seat to the overwhelming Isis influence. And I'm really sick to death of boring-ass sludge metal, especially of the Isis school.

So far I'm really not impressed.

I liked the twilight record a lot. Someone already said it but you can certainly tell who wrote what song.
