Ha, The Beat. I can't get into that shit. I try, but it's just too slow. Makes MLS look like decent play and that's no easy feat. I went one Beat game back in the original incarnation. Seemed like it was there simply for A big day out for local kids' teams. That's cool, I guess, but not for me. I did try to watch that Beat game that was televised last weekend with hopes that the WPS play would improve, but, again, no joy.
I just wish Atlanta would get that USL expansion team that West Ham United's Academy was backing. I guess that's dead in the water now.

Yeah the CL final was good. And surprisingly, so was the U.S./Czech Republic friendly earlier tonight.
And just in case everyone hasn't seen the new Nike World Cup commercial:

Rooney as a pikey is my favorite part. (I don't even know if that term is offensive; if it is ... my bad!)
Supposedly the featured vids at the end on the bottom are sort of related episodes that go into more detail. I haven't watched them yet, though.
edit: Btw, a friend of mine bought me this book:

And it's pretty good. American sports writer goes to England looking for an appreciation of a new sport and ends up becoming a passionate Pompey fan. It's not exactly Pulitzer material, but it's a good read and really makes you feel like you're there.

I think "pikey" is only offensive if you are a pikey and I doubt there are any around here. Funny thing is Rooney is really a chav
Thanks to the links to the other commercials. I'll have to check those later when I have time.
I dug that book. It helps explain a lot of details of the how the English system works that would take a long time to just pick up from watching games.

Dude they are pikeys call them pikeys, fuck this new school of thinking that its like calling someone a nigger. You know how the Brit's are, you call someone a "Paki" and you're suddenly a member of the KKK. whahah
That game against Czech really pissed me off... embarassing showing I thought! Way too loose for me...
Anyone play PES 2010 here?

New Adidas commercial. Not on the same level as the Nike, but pretty damned great all the same.
Three words: Mos Eisley cantina.

Less than a day away!
If you are into it, who are you supporting?
My main allegience is to England. Maybe that seems ridiculous and poseurriffic, but since I watch a lot of EPL these are the players with whom I have the deepest connection.
Next up is Team USA (I really know jack shit about most of the players on USA, so I'd feel like a phony rooting for them above the guys I watch play week in week out.)
Then, in no particular order other teams that I'd like to see do well:
Mexico (I unexpectedly became a fan after attending the game against Venezuala at the Dome last year. Their fans are intense.)
Netherlands (I love their style of play, but think their fans are ridiculous.)
New Zealand
Australia
Uruguay
Switzerland
France
Germany
Japan
