It was the day after Venom didn't play their ATL date. I've heard various stories on why that didn't happen. Anyone know the real deal on that?
I don't know about the Atlanta date, but evidently Rollins didn't think much of Venom, at least after the fact.

Whatever, I can't get the link to post correctly.

They were supposed to play the Metroplex and Abbadon allegedly said they would not go on b/c his entire drumkit wouldn't fit on the riser. A stagehand bascially just told the packed house Venom wasn't playing like around 12-1 if I remember right, and then everyone headed over to their motel and heckled them til morning. I think I was 15.

Ha ha, that's awesome. I wish I made that show. I remember getting a flyer for it at some show at the Omni.

I'm a pretty big Venom fan, but I never understood why Abaddon's semi-retarded drumming required a Neil Peart-esque kit. I guess just to be a pretentious dick, which is just fine with me. But, for that matter, I don't get why Neal Peart requires a Neal Peart-esque kit.

I always wondered why it seemed like I was the only kid in town who liked Venom. ...now I know. If I had been old enough to go to that show it would have probably killed them for me too.

Of all the people, my dad actually wrote a book (it comes out in August). I'm going to start reading it when I'm done with Choosing Death. My dad's book is called Expect No Help: The Life and Times of Jumpin' Jack Flash. It's about his crazy ass life with alot of political rants intertwined in it. If you like reading about someone's acid trips, car/ motorcycle accidents, mishaps with the law, and their views on what America has become, then you'll enjoy it. Only big complaint I have about it is the paragraphs are too freakin long!
That sounds like it's right up my alley! Let me know when it comes out!

I'm currently reading Stranger in a Strange Land. No, I didn't get it just because of the Iron Maiden song. It was a gift. Though, amusingly enough, the same author (Heinlein) also wrote a book called The Number of the Beast. So...I'm guessing Steve Harris is a fan of his work.

It probably should've, but it didn't really kill Venom for me. I mean, over 20 yrs later, I'm sewing Venom patches on my jean jacket...

Wow, I've never made that connection before. It -could- be a coincidence, but that's pretty awesome anyway.

Now I'm waiting for Maiden to release their Starman Jones and The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress albums, loong overdue. :)

I've been published before, BTW. In this book:

Ha... Have you seen The Ultimate Revenge? You'll like them even more after that. Venom wants to ravage Madonna? Venom endorses Jack Daniels? Venom's sound is like a giant brick thrown around the primodial blah? All of the above.

I expect I've seen most of it, portions are inescapable -- "This next song, it ain't about no goldfish, and it ain't about no tuna fish, and it ain't about no trout."

Of course, I've seen the "Witching Hour" video. I remember being absolutely blown away the first time I saw it, because there was still so much mystery surrounding the band. I don't know that I've ever seen the interviews, though.

It looks like they are online and I'll probably give 'em a view.

And for those interested in my dad's book, I'll keep you posted 8)

Oh man, I LOVE the Ultimate Revenge (both of 'em). I mean, ya have Venom, Slayer and Exodus destroying Studio 54...and Venom is sooo over the top. It's a thing of beauty. For more Venom madness check out the Metal City movie.

Wikipedia says that it isn't the case. Although I wouldn't have been surprised -- Harris was obviously a voracious reader during that period.

Speaking of, anyone have an idea what the inspriration for "Strange World" was?

EDIT: okay, I have no idea why that BBCode isn't working.

I bought that book. I haven't read it since I got it though. Pretty cool that you actually got a story published though.

Then there's Anthrax's full blown obsession with Stephen King.
