Well, I don't know if I would call it a "color". Even in "Angel of Death", the roll lasts less than 30 seconds. Rather, I think the rolls are structural, underscoring the guitar riffs or helping to move them in some way or to build tension. Think of "Raining Blood", where the rolls are just a couple of bars in that iconic riff during that sort of break section.
yeah totally. all i'm saying is the guy isn't jackrabbiting kick drums throughout a tune like he's in some awful panda makeup BM band.
and he didn't really use it forcefully until RIB.
if you watch him play, he uses tom/cymbal combos more often with single kick rather than dbl. and he's a helluva lot more inventive with hi-hat/snare/tom combos than all the other cookie cutter shit that's out there.
