I just watched Last of the Liviing. It's a zombie movie set in New Zealand. The plot is simple, three dudes are not just surviving, but living the high life in the post zompacolyptic (sp?) world. All is well until they come across an uninfected chick. It's nothing special, but there's some decent lines and gore and also some decent tunes and a bunch of metal references - Motorhead poster, Neurosis t-shirt, etc...Streaming on Netflix if you are a sucker for zombie shit, otherwise skip it.

has anyone here seen a very low on the totempole movie, that came out in the
early 2000's, called "The Attic Expeditions"?
It starred one of my favorite character actors-Jeffrey Combs & it also starred Seth Green. It was just fucking weird & strange, but also really good & intriguing! I personally loved it, lots of people just didn't get it,
but I thought it Ruled!
Y'all check it out & lemme know what you think?
Oh & kay, I TOTALLY agree! If they go & try to remake of an Absolute
Cronenberg classic like "Videodrome" it WILL totally suck
Donkey Balls!!!
Let's hope they don't!!!

White Lightnin'
Not the old Burt Reynolds movie with Gator running moonshine, though that is one of the greatest films of all time. I could write a thesis on why that film rules, but I won't right now.
I've not seen any of the documentaries on the Dancing Outlaw Jesco White or the Wonderful Whites. Right or wrong, I got a vibe that they were kind of poking fun at the rooters and that just doesn't appeal to me. I figured I'd get around to watching them "someday," but just haven't made it there yet. Oddly, neither of the Dancing Outlaw films are on Netflix so it will be a bit before I get around to watching them.
Anyway, this White Lightnin' is a BBC biopic/docudrama (heavy on the dramatization) about Jesco White. It's shot mostly in black and white, but with hints of color peaking through in spots giving it an eerie tone. Carrie Fisher plays his wife and is pretty entertaining, as she always is. I never would have imagined her playing any role where she has to take a stab at a Southern accent, but she pulls it off OK enough for the purposes of this flick. The dude playing Jesco was a badass. Seriously, dude has down the mountain dancing and the madness and the sweetness...I hope he was nominated for a BAFTA for his role. My biggest compaint is that everyone in the film has perfect movie star teeth and, knowing what I do about hillbillies, that just annoyed the crap out of me. I know that's a petty complaint, but...
Why is this in the fucked up movies thread? Well, when it was over the first thing that I said to my husband was, "I'm sorry about that" and his response was along the lines of, "You better be. What the hell was that?" This is one seriously fucked up flick full of violence, madness and hillbilly business. It's obviously "loosely" based on Jesco's real life as things couldn't have gone down the way they did in the film and he'd still be walking around free and putting on shows for hipsters at 529 and the like.

I dunno if Poughkeepsie Tapes has been mentioned yet. It's a mockumentary about a particularly deranged serial killer who documented his various acts of violence, murder, humiliation, sexual exploitation, etc. with a shitty VHS camera. While the acting isn't great, the movie still manages to be interesting.
Also, the excellent apocalyptic zombie book World War Z is being made into a movie. If they manage to do a good adaptation, it should be creepy as fuck.

That's a BIG if. Whoever sees that first has to report back.relapse wrote:Also, the excellent apocalyptic zombie book World War Z is being made into a movie. If they manage to do a good adaptation, it should be creepy as fuck.
I tried to add Poughkeepsie Tapes to my Netflix queue, and it's already in there somewhere. Figures.
You still got a VHS player? We've got Dancing Outlaw in one of our tape piles. We'll dig it out for you.badcarburetor wrote:I've not seen any of the documentaries on the Dancing Outlaw Jesco White or the Wonderful Whites.

The Wonderful Whites could've been so much better if it hadn't been MTVified.

The Wonderful Whites is MTVified? Weird. I would expect Johnny Knoxville to treat something like that with a little more respect. I know that Heartworn Highways is one of his favorite movies, so dude knows how to present a documentary, I would think.
So, yeah, speaking of...if you are at all into Outlaw Country early 70s style or just seeing David Allen Coe in borderline drag playing in a prison and driving a gigantic tourbus, I can't recommend Heartworn Highways enough. It's one of those flicks that after seeing it the first time I watched it about a half dozen more times in the following weeks. Lots of outlaw greats in it: DAC, TVZ, Charlie Daniels, Guy Clark, Steve Muthfuggin' Earle...Shit's every bit as real as early Mayhem.

I just watched this last night. I've been working alot and the combination of working alot and seeing this movie made me have a fucked up dream about my store manager killing all the employees in other stores by locking all the doors and filling up the place with water so they'd drown.slut rag wrote:
im not sure why this particular movie came to mind, but "FUNNY GAMES" came to me. i fucking love that movie. its really slow but it just creeps me the fuck out. and really there is no end that makes it all worth it so maybe i may like "cannibal ferox" a little more.
FUNNY GAMES is another movie i would add to this discussion. not sure how i forgot about it. naked city in the soundtrack was just fucking weird as well.

so you finally saw it, eh? i like the movie...could definitely see how it would give you fucked up dreams though. there are some really hard to watch scenes in the movie. did you watch the original (in another language) or the american remake? i saw the remake first and when i saw the original on netflix i watched the first 5 minutes and they seemed to be EXACTLY the same besides different actors. even the naked city song was there.
