You gotta be kidding.Knucklehead wrote:Burzum -- Filosofem. This is one of those that I missed while on my metal hiatus. I'm left sort of "meh." There are some great tracks and some "my god [wotan?] what was he thinking" tracks.

Sorry, chief. 25 minutes of the same freakin' thing repeated over and over? Not my cup of tea.VOEGTLIN wrote:You gotta be kidding.Knucklehead wrote:Burzum -- Filosofem. On the other hand, who doesn't like "Burzum"/"Dunkleheit"? And "Beholding the daughters of the firmament"/"Erblicket Die Töchter Des Firmaments" may very easily become my favorite song by him.
And this coming from a dude that loves "Charmicarmicat."Knucklehead wrote:Sorry, chief. 25 minutes of the same freakin' thing repeated over and over? Andee Connors - the dude that runs Aquarius Records - described Filosofem as "ambient works" era Aphex Twin meets Black Metal. That's about it.
I like the early stuff, too. But Filosofem is my favorite. It feels like autumn to me. Anyone who spends a lot of time in the woods is bound to "get" this record on a visceral level. The intellecutual part is responsible for the incessant shitstorm.

That song is so much more ... damaged ... than anything on offer here. I guess that is part of it's appeal.VOEGTLIN wrote:And this coming from a dude that loves "Charmicarmicat."Knucklehead wrote:Sorry, chief. 25 minutes of the same freakin' thing repeated over and over? I can certainly see that. But I never really cared for Aphex Twin. Perhaps it is a defect in my taste. The minimalism of "Pillar of Singularity" is, for me, just too much. I appreciate the effect repetition can have, becoming almost hypnotic. Pink Floyd were masters at that kind of thing. But there were generally more things going on in their songs.VOEGTLIN wrote:Andee Connors - the dude that runs Aquarius Records - described Filosofem as "ambient works" era Aphex Twin meets Black Metal. I grew up in the woods, so I will keep that in mind on future listens. I haven't formed a solid opinion yet, but I can see that I'm likely to listen to only a few songs on this one.VOEGTLIN wrote:I like the early stuff, too. But Filosofem is my favorite.
