you didnt think it was strange that as soon as they got to the world cup, the very next scene was them going back into the tent after it was over, little shit like that is what pissed me off. they could have made the movie 5 minutes longer and told about how crazy that game apparently was. the book really went into it and i think it would have made a much better movie.TheKshatriya wrote:I could follow the movie just fine

I saw it yesterday. I was impressed with Reese Witherspoon's acting it. I wasn't sure how cheesey it was that towards the beginning they used Joaquim Phoenix's actual singing rather than Johnny Cash's. Towards the end though Phoenix was lip sync'ing to Johnny Cash's voice.
Not a bad movie overall. It's made me interesting in reading his autobiography now, upon which the movie was based (that and another biography I think).

No, why would that be weird? It showed like a second of the game, i just thougt that the game wasnt impotant.andyb wrote:you didnt think it was strange that as soon as they got to the world cup, the very next scene was them going back into the tent after it was overTheKshatriya wrote:I could follow the movie just fine
I didn't see if you said or not, but have you read the books?TheKshatriya wrote:No, why would that be weird? This movie was riddled with moments like this, and it really seems silly on the part of the writers and director to not only have cut out so many exciting parts of the book, but also to do it in such a way that the plot of the film came out as choppy crap.
It's not so much whether it was easy to follow or not, because you have to think that it's a film primarily for American children, so it would need to be sufficiently dumbed down to begin with. I'm more annoyed with how poorly the size of the book was dealt with when converting it to a screenplay and how the scenes could have been a lot less choppy under better direction.
Hopefully Mike Newell will not be asked back for The Order of the Phoenix, because I think I will flip shit if they ruin my favourite book of the series. They need to bring Alfonso Cuaron back, damn it.
i thought that HP was good. for sure my least favorite of the movies so far though. you guys are right, it moved along way too quickly and the suspense never really got the attention that it needed.
i've never read any of the books and i probably won't but the movies are usually done much better. i still enjoyed it though...........the lack of having to compete with LOTR might have had something to do with it......i dunno....just a thought

I would have to disagree and say that I probably enjoy the experience of reading the books more, simply because I get so psyched about the books that I will actually take time out whenever one comes out to read them for fun.BlazeTSU wrote:i thought that HP was good. for sure my least favorite of the movies so far though. you guys are right, it moved along way too quickly and the suspense never really got the attention that it needed.

While it's pretty damn awesome to see all of her characters come to fruition on the screen, there's nothing like the original. It's also really nice to see her writing skills develop book by book.
& good point about not competing with LOTR.
All I'm saying is this David Yates dude who's lined up for Order of the Phoenix better deliver.

yeah I got a bit annoyed with that too but you got to think, if they used more stuff from the book, the movie would have been 5 hours long (that's not a bad thing) I'd say about 300 pages out of the book were used in the movie.andyb wrote:you didnt think it was strange that as soon as they got to the world cup, the very next scene was them going back into the tent after it was over, little shit like that is what pissed me off. they could have made the movie 5 minutes longer and told about how crazy that game apparently was. the book really went into it and i think it would have made a much better movie.TheKshatriya wrote:I could follow the movie just fine
I really liked the movie anyway though. It's been a while since I watched the first and second ones...I have the 3rd and I'd say the 3rd is still my favorite. The 4th is a close one though. (I suppose if you haven't read the books, it would be somewhat hard to follow.)
a special they had about this movie said that they took the 700 pages of the book and cut it down to 170 pages for the movie, THAT IS ALOT OF SHIT MISSING.Metalfreak wrote:yeah I got a bit annoyed with that too but you got to think, if they used more stuff from the book, the movie would have been 5 hours long (that's not a bad thing) I'd say about 300 pages out of the book were used in the movie.andyb wrote:you didnt think it was strange that as soon as they got to the world cup, the very next scene was them going back into the tent after it was over, little shit like that is what pissed me off. they could have made the movie 5 minutes longer and told about how crazy that game apparently was. the book really went into it and i think it would have made a much better movie.TheKshatriya wrote:I could follow the movie just fine

you might not believe it and youve probably heard it before, but you should read the books, they are really well writen. very very very good books. if you like to read at all, these books are fast and easy reads. and very interesting front to back.BlazeTSU wrote:i thought that HP was good. for sure my least favorite of the movies so far though. you guys are right, it moved along way too quickly and the suspense never really got the attention that it needed.

you couldn't have said it better! One time I read the first 5 books in the time span of only 2 weeks (yeah I was bored...) but the books kick ass! I can't wait till the last one comes out.andyb wrote:you might not believe it and youve probably heard it before, but you should read the books, they are really well writen. very very very good books. if you like to read at all, these books are fast and easy reads. and very interesting front to back.BlazeTSU wrote:i thought that HP was good. for sure my least favorite of the movies so far though. you guys are right, it moved along way too quickly and the suspense never really got the attention that it needed.

You saw a movie that condensed the life of a 71 year-old man into a 90 minutes, and wanted better plot?holly wrote:That doesn't make having just enough embellishment to sustain the plot acceptable.TheKshatriya wrote:I could follow the movie just fine
Next, you'll be telling me that The Passion of the Christ seemed a little "far fetched".
