Im only 22 so I wasnt around the 80s, but in the past 8+ years Atlanta's hardcore scene has been great. Definitely the best in the south east and Id say one of the best in the country.badcarburetor wrote: I started going to shows in the early-mid 80s and have never stopped. In my experience Atlanta was never a great metal town. Sure, the big shows did fine, but just like with straight edge and hardcore, Atlanta's local scenes were never all that big. I sure don't remember those local shows with a thousand people there, but maybe I somehow missed it.
I dont consider Withered a local band anymore. Theyre local but theyve gotten past that status I think. But aside from Living Decay and Spewtilator I cant think of any current Atlanta bands that are even mediocre.
Whoever said there were local shows with thousands....was that a joke?
i dig the hell out of let the night roar, awesome dudes...they need to play more... i thought i heard they got signed to some label
ive never really thought of withered as a local band. they always seemed like kind of a strange but awesome anomaly in atlanta. always seemed like there should be more people into them...though thats starting to change with them being on prosthetic
thanks for the good words man. i guess its all a matter of taste, i think theres definitely more good metal bands than just us and living decay... though i will concede i'm not into what most bands in general are doing in atlanta....we do have our gems though.TheKshatriya wrote:Im only 22 so I wasnt around the 80s, but in the past 8+ years Atlanta's hardcore scene has been great. Malevolent Creation's old guitarist, awesome drums, thick bass, great dudes, but I see no love for these guys here ever.
I wouldn't say thousands, but in the early 90's bands like Nihilist, Damnage and Mojo (even before they were signed) could draw as many people to the Masquerade as a lot of Nationals did. And they would pack the Wreck Room out. The shitty band I was in at the time would play the outside stage and just the overflow crowd from inside (plus whatever we happened to draw) was pretty killer. Blackness (my bass singer/bassist's old band) was drawing 300-500 people consistently.Whoever said there were local shows with thousands....was that a joke?
Now, you honestly don't think there are any even mediocre bands in Atlanta besides Withered and Spewtilator? haha...wow.
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!

Yeah. Not thousands. Thousand. Yes. Thousands. No. Thousands were more for the BIG national acts. You might get 1400 or so in at the Masqerade for your average national act and down. Don't know that to always be true. Just the shows I played or had direct knowledge of.Strange wrote:I wouldn't say thousands, necroodin wrote:Whoever said there were local shows with thousands....was that a joke?
There is a clear and distinct difference in the metal crowd today from yesteryear.

not going to name names... as i definitely think its more about personal taste than actual "goodness" or "talent" but my list of active atlanta metal bands i like is only 7 or 8 bands long... but thats mainly because im not a fan of any band with a noticable pantera influence, not big on most black metal, and not really into the tech death genre.
