From yesterday's Earache email:

"Our recent series of Full Dynamic Range vinyl remasters comes to its third installment with Swedish Death Metal legends Entombed's debut 'Left Hand Path'. Going on sale on Thursday 31st January at 1pm EST, this will again be sure to sell out just like the first presses of the Bolt Thrower and Carcass LPs."

Ha ha. I think Diana hijacked your account.
It's funny because it's true.

Preorder began at 1:00 p.m. today.

EDIT: Wow. The "ultra-limited" green slime sold out in <7 minutes.

Tell you what -- once I fix the foam on my speakers, I'll have you over and we'll compare this new vinyl to the CD. You know, for novelty's sake.

...

And maybe you can drag your copy of the first press out of your parents' basement, and we'll compare that, too.

Brian wrote:Yes, but Earache has made it no secret that their LP reissues are just CD-sourced pressed to wax.

AmoebicDysentery wrote:I dunno about these others, but the SOS repress is supposed to be remastered from the original tapes in "full dynamic range" which SHOULD mean it won't be loud and compressed. Of course my friend sells me his original gatefold AFTER I buy this damn thing, so when it arrives I can do some comparisons.

Brian wrote:"The main reason for using the CD to make the wax is not the convenience but familiarity. Many thousands of copies have been sold in the 2 decades since release, so that is the sound that fans are used to, we'd get complaints if the vinyls sounded any different I think."
badcarburetor wrote:That's the wackest bunch of wackness that ever wacked. BUT it does make me wonder if this is an example of a growing trend of CD buyers turning to vinyl now who will have to "learn" to appreciate the difference in sound and Earache doesn't want to deal with being on the low side of the learning curve. Just a thought....
Check out this recent article on vinyl sales and, specifically, who is buying it. Maybe I was on to something...

Digital systems compress the sound, collapsing airy layers of audio into monotoned drones. Stately walls of sound flatten into leaden pancakes. While the vinyl-to-MP3 comparison isn’t exactly analogous to watching “Lawrence of Arabiaâ€Â￾ on an iPhone, there’s some level of equivalency there. Neil Young goes on at great length about this in his new autobiography, “Waging Heavy Peaceâ€Â￾ â€â€￾ too great, it seems. But his rant has genuine merit.

Neil Young's whiny voice is warmer on vinyl. No wait, those are the pops and crackles I'm hearing. I need a record cleaner.
