Second full-length on Nazgul's Eyrie is good. Actually, almost everything NE put out is good. Countess, etc. The Blackest of the Black. No "post." No "gaze." No "avant." No fun.

BrucexCampbell - We Are All Kamikaze
Despite a name that brings to mind bad powerviolence this is actually some pretty legit grinding. Falls somewhere between old Nasum, "Prowler in the Yard" era Pig Destroyer, and newer stuff like Insect Warfare musically. The vocals lean a little too far in the "inhale" direction in some parts for my taste but it's still a ripper.

Kylesa - Spiral Shadows
Static Tensions was pretty much the perfect mix of Kylesa's sludgy metal excellence and psychedelic/stoner rock imo. Spiral Shadows however, is not. As several of their peers have done (Mastodon, Baroness, Torche etc.) they take it too far in the rock direction and lose the balance of heaviness with melodic catchy-ness. There are some quality tracks but there's a couple that def fall short...Dust sounds like the damn Foo Fighters. Pretty disappointing as Static was one of my favorite albums of last year. I'll probably still buy the vinyl when it comes out.

Super Fun Happy Slide - The Undislodgable Nugget Scenario
Who knew there was another band (other than Ghoul) doing pitchshifted vocals over good music? No slamdeath/pornogrind faggotry here... just blistering grind with healthy doses of dbeat, thrash, and speedy hc. Vocals are varied ranging from pitchshifted belches to maniacal shrieking to hc yells to shit so low it sounds like a portal into hell. Highly rec'd to fans of Wormrot, Insect Warfare, and fast shit. If you like grind at all and have a sense of humor you will enjoy this.
SPEWTILATOR - Badass motherfuckin' street cops with nothing to lose who don't play by the rules and are out for blood.

I don't have this album, but I've been listening to it on youtube and I've really liked what I've heard. Is it purchase worthy?

Time Will... is still my fave, and it's hard to beleive Sprial Shadows was made by Kylesa. Shows what money will do I guess, unless they were all really itching to make a Pixies record.

Haha yeah... i don't really know that it's money (as i seriously doubt they're on the level to be making much if any from their album sales yet), i think it's more just them progressing from their last album and it not being something a lot of their early fans are going to enjoy as much. The transition is there from Time to Static to Spiral it's just a shame they're not balancing all that psych/rock shit with the sound they've built their fan base on. It was the same thing with Baroness... Red was a phenomenal record and Blue was such a departure from their metal/sludge roots that it lost a lot of what made Red so great: the balance of crushing sludge riffs with melodic stoner rock.

I've been on a serious dark drone/ambient search again for the last several months and this definitely fits the bill. Check out that TenHornedBeast release too if you like Blood of the Black Owl.

Definitely. This one was a recent overpriced eBay snag. You'd probably be able find it a bit more reasonably priced since you're just on the other side of the Rhine from those guys right now. The new one rules hard too. I can't seem to get enough of maniacal demented vocals like that these days.

So whattaya call metal bands that don't or won't play metal anymore?
