Yelawolf - Trunk Music
This white boy rapper from Bama is growing on me. Bit by bit.
Eminem - Relapse
I admit that I'm a pretty big fan, but somehow I just skipped this last album. I'm about halfway through and a lot of this is fanfuckingtastic, as good as anything on The Eminem Show. I'll have to see how the rest shapes up.
Dr. Know - Plug In Jesus
Take away that really stupid Fist Fun song and this album is near perfect 80s HC punk. The lead off track reminds me that I really should watch the phenominal filmGod Told Me To again.

HAAH!! Phenomenal is not the word I would use. It's super weird though.Nyarlathotep wrote:That's weird, a friend of mine was just telling me about that movie yesterday. Can you recommend any similar bands? I'm not really all that familiar with the whole psychedelic rock/metal thing. The only other band I listen to in that vein is The Devil's Blood (although I am familiar with Coven too). I know they're not really that familiar, but they seem to be getting grouped together.

Those two bands remind me a good bit of each other without really sounding alike. Both are pretty unique (though I know Stew will solidly disagree and say just go spin Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars) and no one else is really hitting that groove. Yet.
You could try Lucifer’s Friend (old band like Coven), Jex Thoth (big likelihood you might dig this), Sabbath Assembly (related to Jex Thoth), Earth, In Solitude (sound like early Mercyful Fate with *much* less operatic vocals), Leaf Hound (old sixty boogie psych), Flower Travellin' Band…a friend of mine has been raving about a band called Black Witch, but I have yet to hear them.
Good luck and let me know what you find and dig.

Infinitely better than the current "SATAN(I)C(K)" rehash. Also: Jerusalem; Randy Holden (Population II); Sir Lord Baltimore; and the first three BOC records.badcarburetor wrote:Leaf Hound (old sixty boogie psych), Flower Travellin' Band…
That reish label Akarma has the corner on the market for this "sound." Full Moon Recs used to stock all those LPs but I haven't seen any last few times I've gone.
