Wow. I didn't know anyone outside of Michigan knew about these guys. For a short time, we considered this the heaviest thing ever written.badcarburetor wrote:Jim Jones and the Kool-Ade Kids - Trust Me

For their time they were super fucking heavy. I get a kick out of the fact that the album sides were named for what later became distinct genres.
I was turned onto them by a buddy who alternately lives in NYC, ATL and Puerto Rico. Dude's got awesome taste in all kinds of music, but usually isn't down with metal.

Last night's late night spins:
Fucked Up - David Comes to Life
They may be hipper than a can of Tecate, but Hidden World is a brilliant album and while they may never reach that high again, this album is pretty fucking intense.
Hollywood Brats - S/T
If ya know, ya know.
Waye County and The Electric Chairs - Things Your Mother Never Told You
Same as above.
Diamond Reo (not the xtian Diamond Rio)
Above average 70s bar rock.
Hooded Menace - Never Cross the Dead
One of those albums that always hits the spot.
Honor Role - The Pretty Album
The East Coast TSOL? Criminally underrated mid-80s punk.
Blut Aus Nord - What Once Was Liber I
I think Tommy tipped me to ordering this a while back. I've heard of this band for ages, but know very little about them. Are they Boyd Rice-ish sketchy or just "arty" or...? Whatever the shit sounds awesome so heavy and deep...
Hellsaw - Spiritual Twilight
Not really feeling this one, but I loved Cold.
Barathrum - Legions of Perkele
Another band that I don't know enough about, but really need to learn more. Such killer, riff based rockin' black metal?
Violator - Chemical Assault
Spun in honor of Tony E99. Very good retro thrash played with style and conviction.

Honor Role is totally killer. I saw them open for COC twice at the Metroplex. They were fucking great.badcarburetor wrote: Honor Role - The Pretty Album

Funny how as good as Honor Role is, that they've been nearly forgotten. I've only seen a few passing references to them over the years. I got turned onto them when they were played on a WREK show, Tongue Bath I think it was. Dude who hosted the show loved them and played them every other week.

Yeah, Barathrum's EEIRE, JETBLACK, and INFERNAL are all pretty killer, but hard as shit to find. And even if you do locate em, it's like $60 a pop.

mid-to-late 90s BM. Shit's expensive. That's why I never cultivated the taste for it and stuck to one or two Bathory records.

If you dig that EP, check out Odinist and the Work Which Transforms God. All of their recordings differ to an extent, but those two and that recent EP are a pretty cohesive body and some their best in my opinion. The early stuff if more straight up "black metal," but I really prefer the bizzare time changes and chaotic dissonant harmonies (for a lack of better words) of the later work. MoRT was the one record that really seemed to miss the mark...their Cold Lake, if you will. Everything else is worth a good listen, including the splits. And they do a pretty good job of keeping a low profile also, which I admire. They just put out a new full length this summer, too. Been meaning to pick that up for weeks now.badcarburetor wrote:Blut Aus Nord - What Once Was Liber I
