Cultes des Ghoules - Spectres Over Transylvania hasn't left my turntable since the day it came in the mail. This shit is so good. My favorite black metal release of the year by a landslide.

That Cormorant record is cool too.

NPR's metal writer Lars appreciates good music. Obviously NPR can't feature too much black and death metal because that's just too divisive I would guess, but Lars definitely has good taste (he's the one who writes about all the metal on the site). His 2011 picks included Atma, Negative Plane's new album, Ulcerate, 40 Watt Sun.. etc.

And yeah Dwellings is definitely a grower. I bought the cd and it took me a good several listens before I really started digging it. Now I'd say it's definitely one of my top 4 albums for 2011. The musicianship is just... amazing. You can tell how much work they put into it by just looking at the lyrics.. not to mention everything is DIY, no label, yet from the contributors list in the album booklet there were a good 300+ preorders.. gotta respect them for that.
