I used to be more into powermetal...mostly the progressive-metal side. My tastes have gotten a lot darker over the last 4 or 5 years, though.

Im into Blind guardian, Lost Horizon, and Helloween. The genre is almost too formulated for my taste. Those are the main 3 that I really like.

definitely. Although I am not much into BG anymore. I still dig Helloween, but when I want powermetal I tend to lean towards Manilla Road, Manowar, Wolf, Dream Evil, White Skull, and Gravedigger. I do like the new Demons and Wizards, however.
As for power metal genre being formulaic, show me one gnre that isn't.
