Ha, I figured you could one-up that statement.sleyja wrote:Pet Sounds for mods was Billy Nicholls' - "Would You Believe".MS_39455 wrote:Which was Pet Sounds for mods. Had to be said.badcarburetor wrote:Pretty accurate, though I think the intention was Sgt. Read about what was going on during the recording and it explains a lot about that record.Knucklehead wrote:The Rolling Stones -- Their Satanic Majesties Request. I've heard tracks from this record before, but never actually sat down and listened to the whole thing. There's a lot of crap.

Last night I tried out the Steve Harris solo album British Lion. I had high hopes for a real throwback, Thin Lizzy, UFO kind of affair, but it's just not there. The songs sound under-worked and under-powered with the overall impression being that of an early 90s unfocused local rock band with metal leanings (because they are wearing shoulder length, lightly permed hair and have bandanas tied around their wrists and knees).
The vocals are very strange and really just plain weak. They sound way too clean and soft, like the dude is sort of whispering them and is scared to belt anything out for fear of losing key. Of course this could be an intentional move to avoid comparisons with the Air Raid Siren, but, if so, it's just trying way too hard.
The best stuff has a Maiden leaning to it and that's a pretty weak compliment for something was supposed to be taking a very different path. I'll spin it again and maybe one or two tracks will stick with me, but for the most part this is an album that should have stayed home demos made for fun.
