Because none of the other presidents cut the funding for their maintenance to fund a war. They were strengthened as recently as 1995 after a different flood hit down there, but by 2003 all the funding for keeping them at full strength was gone, which is a big reason why most of New Orleans is now gone.

It's really not that hard to see that this whole situation, while unavoidable, certainly could have been a lot less catastrophic with proper federal attention to evacuation procedures and flood prevention.

Ultimately it's a case of the government playing the high odds hoping the worst wouldn't ever happen and losing.
proper funding to keep them at "full strength" still wouldnt have stood up to this hurricane. they were built properly, and if he did give the funding to fix them, new orleans still would have gotten fucked. because they wouldnt have been fixed in time.

Considering the funding was cut around 2-3 years ago you're wrong.

How about we cut funding for college radio to support the leeves. Also is Bush to blame for the failing sewer system in atlanta suppose they should be the ones to pay for it not the citty right. And by they I mean the government

I think we can safely blame Bush for everything. Clearly he and Jesus had a talk about organizing the hurricane. And I know he's keeping gas prices high just out of spite. That Bush is a shitty fucker. I bet he's the one that scheduled all of my tests on the same day next week. Down with Bush!!

I DONT SUPPOSE ANY OF YOU IDIOTS CHECKED THE WASHINGTON POST TODAY???? YOU WERE ALL WRONG
THEY REPORTED TODAY THAT BUSH NEVER CUT ANY FUNDING. SPENDING ON LEVEE MAINTANENCE ACTUALLY WENT UP IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS. everything was a lie. everything you believed and were bitching about was a LIE. it was actually the democratic senator of louisianna that diverted the funds for the levees, he though it would be a better use of the money to deepen one of the harbors. go ahead go there. read it for yourselves. then you can reply and appologize to president bush.

Well, I just found and read the article. I haven't really been yapping about this issue but since you're screaming... While spending has been up, it's not to Bush's credit. Regarding levee projects: $27.1 million was requested. Bush suggested $3.9 million. Congress granted $5.7 million.

You mention a democratic senator diverting levee funds. Read again. The project in question was denied by army corp of eng so he slipped something into a bill for Iraq so that the corp would redo their calculations on the project.

Again, I don't really care about this all that much but I do think it's insane to blow billions 'liberating the people of Iraq' while chincing on the people of the USA. I also think it's nuts to think that the US federal govt should not be involved in matters within the US yet say that it's right to go seriously fucking around on the other side of the planet.

you got me bob, god damnit, i agree on the war thing. im not against the war, but we should take care of our own first. the only reason im even arguing any of this is because i think its retarded to blame bush for any of this. i dont think hes the best guy ever. but i do think hes honest and he does what he can. every one wants to blame bush. what can he really do? its congress that fucks everything up.
