An open letter to the dude from liturgy written by Chris Grigg from Woe (one of the best american black metal bands going right now)

I keep thinking that if this is simply ignored that maybe it will go away. But how the fuck is Joseph Beuys and a Cardiff/Miller installtion at PS1 now somehow being mixed into this mass of what-the-hell for a self inflicted headwound worthy end product of dumb. Get the fuck out of my head. And if this means nothing to you then you're doing just fine.

I think it's a matter of intellectual overkill.

From Liturgy to the New Yorker author there's too much education and no sense of restraint. These types seems to suffer from some need to make black metal deeper than it really is simply so that they can feel OK about enjoying stupid headbanger music. They can't accept that it's fine to just like something because it sounds good; not everything has to speak to some higher meaning.

Whatever, I just wonder how many old intellectuals hiked out and bought a physical CD of WiitR or Liturgy as a result of that journalistic wankery.

I don't get why there's talk about these morons at all. You can talk all you want about taking shit to a higher "intellectual level" but when your music is the same reheated shit from 20 years ago it means fucking nothing.

That'd be like John Cage saying all the same things he did and then going and making bubblegum pop songs.

jeez I couldn't even finish that article...what was the point of it anyway? To prove bm has some sort of intellectual meaning? pointless imo! If it's good then it's good but enough of this pretentious shit already! Just make music and shut the fuck up because nobody cares!
