Kiss made a contribution here, not just to rock'n'roll and music, but to society in general. Before "Detroit Rock CIty," did anyone truly know the order in which to imbibe vs. to inhale? I think not, and we can all thank Paul Stanley for the clarification.Knucklehead wrote: ↑Mon April 26th, 2021, 7:56 pmI played guitar in a band in high school. We knew five songs — one was “Cold Gin” and another was “Detroit Rock City”, so two were by Kiss.
This record is pretty straight-forward New York hard rock. I can see how, if I had listened to this as a teen it would have been formative. I can appreciate it, but likely will never listen to this one again.

Inspired by Knucklehead's trying something new, I did the same this morning and spun some pre-"Satanica" Behemoth. Zzzzzzzzz....
Also,
Anacrusis - Screams & Whispers
Anathema - Silent Enigma
Big Black - Headache
Furthermore, Amon Amarth is fucking horrible.

Inspired by Knuck's recent foray. I think the Vinnie Vincent albums are the best. These two along with Animalize (enter Mark St. John/Bruce Kulick) are essential in my opinion.
Kiss - Creatures of the Night
Kiss - Lick It Up
Tygers of Pan Tang - Spellbound
Black Sabbath - Eternal Idol (Ray Gillen session version)
Kommunity FK - Close One Sad Eye
Rudimentary Peni - Cacophony
John Cale - Honi Soit

Listened to 90s Bathory for the first time since 1990 this week, so a lot of this was new to me. I hated Hammerheart so much that I didn't listen to anything that came after than until now.
Hammerheart - still fucking awful
Twilight of the Gods - marginally better
Requiem - interesting
Octagon - is this the one everyone despised? I didn't think it was that bad, but Knucklehead's band likely did a better version of "Deuce"
Blood on Ice - made no impression at all

Really, it’s all about the first three for me. And particularly Under the Sign.
