Video Games

Post by NeuroNomicon » Sat June 17th, 2006, 9:22 am

Since it's always nice to have a good light-hearted topic around here, here's a new one. What's everyone's favorite videogames?

Tops on the list here:

1) Saam - GTA: San Andreas / Wolfenstein
2) Mike - Knights of the Old Republic II / Doom
3) Justin - Final Fantasy VII / The Legend of ZELDA
4) John - Star Wars Galaxies / FIFA 2005

Did anyone here ever play Virtual Boy? It was like a candy-coated descent into hell. It was great.

I can't stop playing MLB '06 the Show...I'm stuck in AAA, because the Marlins closer has been on fire the whole season

The Marlins!?

Post by NeuroNomicon » Sat June 17th, 2006, 10:47 am

They key to a good sports game is if it lets you create a team, and customise the players. I didn't think those damned Marlins would ever get to kicking any ass when they first came on the scene back in the day. I remember them and the 'Rockies kinda popped up outta nowhere.

Boskonians, on one of those "here's six games packaged into a controller, and battery powered" doohickies. It also has Galaxians, which rules, DigDug, which is okay, and Rally-X, which is just plain stupid. And Ms. Pac-Man, but I was never a contendah.

Yeah, I'm old-sk00l. :D

Haven't played any 'puter games in ages -- who has the time? -- but I recently 'played' some Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 at a friend's house since they needed some tips. "Now that you've built a good theme-park, it's time to drown your park guests in water. Let's drop a pond right at the exit from this coaster. Cool, they're drowning by the dozen. Hmm, funny how your park's approval rating is plummeting like a stone..."

Trapping park-guests by sealing off an underground tunnel, and then erasing the tunnel, is fun, too.....watching them slowly float toward the center of the Earth. Forever. "Guest 2843 can't find the park exit!" Well, duh.....

If I ever win the lottery and buy Six Flags.....don't visit. Ever.

They have a career mode where you sign with a team and try to make it to the big leagues. You start off in spring training, and most likely after that, you're in either AA or AAA. In the beginning, your attributes are very low, you improve them over time with training hours accumulated by good play. It's quite challenging.

i usually buy old sports games for really cheap at used game stores so i have tiger woods '03 which is fun and one of my all time favorites is MVB Baseball '04.

Guitar Hero

Post by NeuroNomicon » Sat June 17th, 2006, 6:56 pm

Guitar Hero is a total kick in the balls, you are crazy big Willy! That shit is fucking impossible. We took turns at Best Buy trying that damned thing out. Each and every one of us got 0wN3d. That being said, it was really cool to get our asses kicked by "Cowboys From Hell".

Paul, Galaxian/Galaga are the SHIT! Of all the space-shooters ever, that is never ending fun. The best part is trying to kick the shit out of the highest score some turd-burglar got at Aladdin's Castle.

Only mildly off-topic: What the hell ever happened to videogame arcades? Dave and Buster's and Jillian's do not count. Real, down-and-dirty, ski-ball havin', pin-ball blastin', Galaga-in-the-corner-havin', shady motherfuckers-workin', good, ole-fashioned, arcades? Where the shit did they go?

I like watching dudes in metal bands suck at guitar hero. It makes me smile.

Damn, i can't pick a favorite.
I've been playing Metroid Prime recently and I love it.

Mike...

Post by NeuroNomicon » Sat June 17th, 2006, 7:50 pm

...dude, ALL of us took a crack at it(Saam, Mike, John) and all of us got whooped. It wrecked us. It makes Parappa look like child's play.

Metroid is a great series. They need to darken it up for the next-gen Nintendo console. It wouldn't make a bad Sci-Fi movie, either...Mother Brain is a total bitch.

Castlevania

Post by NeuroNomicon » Sun June 18th, 2006, 8:23 am

Castlevania was the SHITTTTTTT! I remember playing Simon's Quest (which, by the way, was NOT to conquer every mall in America) non-stop. Favorite of the series, bar none.
