Hey, Greg, is the reissue of Focus worth picking up? I have an original version, but if it's substantially different/better/remastered, I'll happily pick it up. I figure I owe Sean Malone a beer or two. (He was "oneof us," a longtime IRC habitue, but has been scarce the last couple of years.)Greg wrote:I treated myself to a few christmas presents over the break - re-releases of stuff I missed the boat on the first time around. I bought re-releases of:
the last 3 Carcass albums
Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane
Disincarnate - Dreams Of The Carrion Kind
Cynic - Focus
So it's been a mid-90's revival in my ears the past few weeks.
Well, there are 6 "bonus tracks" on the album. Three of them are three of the same songs on the album but have "2004 Remix" tagged onto the end. They don't sound any different to me though, maybe they're re-mastered for home theater surround sound or something.
There are 3 other songs that aren't on the album and I don't know where they came from, but they a) aren't as good as the stuff on Focus, and b) aren't heavy at all. They're like entire songs fleshed out of the softer keyboard/ambient parts of the songs on Focus. I'll give them another listen and see if I can find a good one.
It does come in a neat little package with a cardboard slipcase and a new booklet with different pictures inside. Since I never got the chance to get the old album (or hear it back when it came out), I'm happy with it, but I don't know if it's worth picking up if you already have the old one.
Bob, I'd like to hear the demo tracks if you can find a way to get them up to the studio. If it's a heavier sound I'm all for it.

Err, I think I already have the demos burnt onto a CD-R (followed by most of the original Focus, whatever would fit); that's actually my 'WREKage copy' of Focus. I won't be at the studio next weekend but if you're there two Fridays from now, remind me and I'll pull it out.Greg wrote: Bob, I'd like to hear the demo tracks if you can find a way to get them up to the studio. For a limited time you can download the '91 Cynic demo for Roadrunner Records. enjoyGreg wrote: Bob, I'd like to hear the demo tracks if you can find a way to get them up to the studio. If it's a heavier sound I'm all for it.

Awesome, thanks.
I'm grabbing it right now.
Edit - it definitely sounds different, sounds a lot like that band Behold The Arctopus we play from time to time, with vocals. I like the fuller, sludgier tone in the guitars.
The drums sound a little weird though... I swear I can hear the drum beat from one of the Mega Man 2 stages about 35 seconds into Uroboric Forms... or maybe I'm just on some strange kick about hearing video game noises in metal.
