Summer '07
Atlanta's got some pretty kickass fucking bands, and we've got our favorites.
There are some pretty wicked metal tours/festivals that roll through time to time as well.
So here's what the meat 'an taters of this is:
What are the odds of LFR, WREKage, DeathGasm, ATLMetal, etc, putting on a day or weekend-long Metal X-travaganza.
There are plenty of bands from here to fill up a multi-band bill lasting a long fucking time. As well there's still a good bit of time to set this shit up.
In a beautiful, perfect world, DAATH could headline this shit, but I'm wagerin' those dick-danglin', swaggerin', Rock Gods have a festival lined up.
It would be nice to have something on par with that Meehan's show lined up for a beautiful fuckin' summer weekend.

Awesome-strawsome
I don't know what TKT's status is, but that would be a nice headliner too. For all future reference, Athens is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atlanta, so count that shit for the kickass bands from there too.
I think the keys to this being a wicked success are:
BEER
MEAT
METAL

TKT is only on hiatus til Ryan gets back from the Arsis tours. I think they'd be good direct support for Daath or (not holding my breath on this one) Mastodon.NeuroNomicon wrote:I don't know what TKT's status is, but that would be a nice headliner too. I was going to go to that, honest I was. But something came up at the last minute... I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. No horses heads were involved, though.AmoebicDysentery wrote:I hope this works out better than the "Drinkfest".

If I were to put something like this together, I'd make some kind of umbrella organizatinal structure by which funding could be allocated properly. I'd designate people to do certain functions and have a "steering committee" who would make executive decisions, with one person as the chairman or whatever. I would also find someone who knows something about entertainment law and can make sure everything is being done so that everyone's butts are covered. I can think of a shitload of other organizational matters I'd consider, but at the moment I'm braindead. If this is to work, though, someone will need to write up everything in a detailed plan.

The trick is going to be finding a venue condusive to an outdoor festival. Lakewood would be way too damned big, Chastain is out of the question.
Beer sponsorship would definitely help bring the roaches out of the woodwork, and cut down on some of the costs. I'm with Will, no more fucking dead-end events. This shit needs to go down for real.
Important aspects to keep the people coming:
Free/Easy Parking
Beer
Good Weather
A Shit-Ton of Bands
Decent PA Support
Radio-Airing
Grub
We need to find an abandoned Drive-In Theater and set up shop on that motherfucker.

wasn't there one in Doraville? I'm not sure if someone developed on it or not though. How about the drive in on Moreland? Monster Bash was held there...there were movies and bands though.NeuroNomicon wrote:

that sounds nice if it was good bands, from atlanta i can think of like 2 maybe. im booking a little show in april with some bigger bands (atleast in my mind bigger), currently trying to grab a venue, i wanna do like 8-10 bands, grindcore and brutal death show, details soon, im still talking to bands.

I went to the Drive-invasion at the one on Moreland a few months ago and it was pretty fun. You can camp out and bring your own food and alcohol. Would be rad if they could do something like that with metal bands and show horror flicks at night (it's actually a perfect combo) but I highly doubt they'd do an event like that. They had Blue Oyster Cult play this year.

that sounds cool but I'm pretty sure we're looking to include way more than the 2 atlanta bands you like. there are plenty of subgenres well covered between Athens and Atlanta that would bring in a wider audience.Matt wrote:that sounds nice if it was good bands, from atlanta i can think of like 2 maybe. im booking a little show in april with some bigger bands (atleast in my mind bigger), currently trying to grab a venue, i wanna do like 8-10 bands, grindcore and brutal death show, details soon, im still talking to bands.

Thanks Mike! ProgPower's the inspiration, that, and all the summer festivals that roll through town. We've got way too many awesome, AWESOME fucking bands from here and Athens for something like this NOT to go down. Hell, we'll probably even come out of hiding for something like this, lineup be damned.
The hardest part, I think, is getting a big enough venue to accomodate this, and to be sure it's not scheduled on a weekend that one of the bigassed metal fests are rolling through town...
