From Exile - Crushing Reality
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Crowpath - Son of Sulphur
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

I usually do ten, but I can't even think of 5 more things that came out this year.
This year has been such a blur, and I've spent so much of it out of the loop, that this is really it.

Mastodon!
Enslaved - Ruun
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Burst - Origo

and I'll tenatively add Arsis - United in Regret but my order hasn't arrived yet.

local stuff that was awesome: From Exile, Kylesa, Lazer/Wulf, Music Hates You
Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling.

EDITED for forgetfulness:
Not ordered-
Metal:
Ihsahn - The Adversary
Strapping Young Lad - The New Black
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Enslaved - Ruun
I - Between Two Worlds
The Human Abstract - Nocturne
From Exile - Crushing Reality
All Shall Perish - The Price of Existence
Mastodon - Blood Mountain

Non-metal:
Joanna Newsom - Ys
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Mars Volta - Amputechture
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
Lady Sovereign - Public Warning
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
Jucifer - If Thine Enemy Hunger

If I combine them for a Top 5:
1. Joanna Newsom - Ys
2. I - Between Two Worlds
3. Lady Sovereign - Public Warning
4. The Human Abstract - Nocturne
5. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

5 is really not enough.

The I album is the best end of the year suprise. Who else to show everyone how Black 'n Roll should be played but Abbath from Immortal?

Favorite metal:
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Keep of Kalessin - Armada
Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Ihsahn - The Adversary
The Sword - Age of Winters
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Martyr - Feeding the Abscess
Gojira - From Mars to Sirius
I - Between Two Worlds
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Enslaved - Ruun
...and others like Gaza, Korpiklaani, Nachtmysium, Negura Bunget, and Psycroptic. I liked a lot of metal this year. And I still haven't heard some stuff like Anaal Nathrakh, Gorod, or Sulaco.

As far as non-metal goes, I really liked stuff from TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Zombi, So Many Dynamos, and Metal Hearts. I didn't listen to a lot of new hip-hop this year.

.
Anaal Nathrakh came out with a new album?

here's mine for this year:
Cannibal Corpse - Kill
Legion of the Damned - Malevolent Rapture
Merrimack - Of Entropy and Life Denial
Yyrkoon - Unhealthy Opera
I - Between Two Worlds
Napalm Death - Smear Campaign
Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side
Vader - Impressions in Blood

those aren't in any particular order...there's probably more.
I don't really keep up with any other genres besides metal. This is all new stuff that was sent to my show throughout the year.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

Also I want to say thanks to those who listed "Crushing Reality" among your 2k6 favorites. That really means a lot.
