new Radiohead
I'm sure there are a few fans on this site...
it's coming out in 10 days!
what a surprise announcement.
The cool part about it is, they're letting you set your own price. It's only available in digital format until December, but for the download, you can get them $100 or not pay a cent. It's completely up the the consumer. Since it's being released through them and not through a label, they earn every penny.

Thanks for the free CD.

Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling.
At first, I was definitely holding out for the super-special awesome disc box with the bonus tracks, additional artwork, and vinyl copy. But then I found out it was 40 BP which means $80.
If this succeeds, will it show that the record industry isn't necessary anymore? I think so. Regardless, they're not going anywhere soon.

I'll download it for free then buy the regular cd when it comes out early next year.
I think this is just a big fuck you to the recording industry in general and to beat everyone to the punch by leaking it themselves.
It's kind of ironic that Radiohead of all bands has pretty much gone ahead and done the most metal thing in years doing it this way.

The thing is, Radiohead is an established act. If they had never put out an album this wouldn't mean shit.Mitch wrote:If this succeeds, will it show that the record industry isn't necessary anymore? I think so. Regardless, they're not going anywhere soon.
I'm completely in favor of thinking outside the Record Industry box. But the fact of the matter is that in order for a band to completely bypass the current model (Get signed, record, tour, repeat) without having already established themselves via the "old way" and actually succeed, they're going to have to have to be incredibly savvy. It would mostly be about marketing, but also the angle of convincing joe public (not to mention media) that you're a "Real" band despite not having the industry stamp of approval.
Again, I'm all in favor of this. I just think it would be really tricky for a new band to pull it off. [insert chorus of "Peace Sells" here]
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!
First person besides myself to not claims it's so great.Greg wrote:pretty good album overall, though it gets a little too elevator music-y at times for me.
There are definite bits and pieces of genius scattered throughout though.
It's a whopping mediocre. Like you said, maybe half of the songs are great. Compared to old Radiohead that's a terrible ratio.

I've only told like two people to avoid crucifixion.
