Zonaria signs to Century Media - 08 Jul 2008
Swedish death/black hopefuls ZONARIA have signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and have just entered the studio to record their second full-length album, which is about to surface later this year. The band comments on its new label home as follows:
"We are extremely happy to announce that we've just been signed by long running extreme metal label Century Media. It is amazing how all this hard work paid off, and we can guarantee you great things this year and beyond. It has been a dream for all of us since we first started listening to metal. We listened to bands like Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Iced Earth and Dream Evil when we were just around 13-14 years old. If someone would have told us that we are going to be signed to the same label back then I'm pretty sure none of us would have believed it. Another equally great thing is that we are about to enter Studio Fredman (!), the studio where almost any great band worth mentioning has recorded their albums, to record our follow up to "Infamy And The Breed". If any recording studio has been an unreachable dream for us so far - it has been this one! So everyone, expect great things!"

I'm so fucking excited because not only is Century a great label, there is a substantially greater chance that a future US tour will be in the works!!!!!!
As for their newest album......I hope it can stand up to and surpass Infamy and the Breed. The last one was good........and I know they're capable of great things.

They're cool I guess. I used to enjoy them a lot but lately I've been bored of the whole melo-death thing. No originality at all in the entire genre.

Just because most melodic death sounds similar does not mean it lacks originality!!! If it lacked originality every band and every song would sound exactly the same, which they do not!
I can turn right around and say the same thing about the entire genre of black metal or the entire genre of brutal death metal.
It all obviously sounds similar......and most lacking originality........because they all fit in that genre.

No, Melo-death really does lack originality.
That's why the most common description from people who don't like the genre is "Boring"

I like melo-death and even I'd describe it as boring.
And yes, it does lack originality. Tell me, how has the genre progressed since At the Gates released Slaughter of the Soul back in 1995? What's been done to improve it or make it more interesting?
If you were to say that about black metal, you'd be wrong. Hell, you've even admitted yourself that you like melodic black metal but don't like the lo-fi stuff. There you go, two different branches from the same genre tree, whereas melodic death metal is the same thing, over and over and over again. I never said the music is bad, but you're deluding yourself if you honestly think that the songs don't sound the same.
The only progression I can think of with melodic death metal is to add breakdowns to it and well, we all know how badly that's turned out.

Eluviete is the first breath of fresh air in the melodic death area of things to my ears in a long long time.

listen to Extol's "Undeceived"
I think its a genius album......perhaps a little more progressive than melodic but it sits in the melo-death family for sure. Extol is one of those bands that oozes originality. You hear one note and know exactly who it is.
but, just FYI, their other albums sit inside other genres. their last album, The Blueprint Dives is by far their worst offering. "Burial", "Mezmerized", "Undeceived" and "Paralysis" are all stellar and all kinda blur the lines of Black/Dark/Progressive/Melo-Death. "Synergy" was an all out prog jerk-off.....entertaining for a few listens but was basically too complicated to really get into.

Zonaria's album is pretty good, but honestly, the first four or five tracks are necessary. The rest of it just seems like filler to me. I can't get into the rest of it.

never heard of them. If they're gonna tour, I'll probably wind up seeing them at some point especially if they're playing with bands I know.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???
