Top albums of 2008

Post by Brian » Tue December 30th, 2008, 2:14 pm

GO GO GO

As of now my list goes like this, but it'll probably change. I've discovered some really cool albums over the past two weeks that I hadn't heard before.

10. Krallice - Krallice
9. The Fiery Furnaces - Remember
8. Disfear - Live the Storm
7. Septicflesh - Communion
6. Fear Before - Fear Before
5. Gojira - The Way of All Flesh
4. Arsis - We Are the Nightmare
3. of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping
2. TI - Paper Trail
1. Cynic - Traced in Air

Honorable mentions go out to: Nachtmystium (yeah I fucking hated this at first but now I love it!), Why?, Horna, Earth, Arghoslent, Winterfylleth, Grand Magus, The Gaslight Anthem (will probably end up in my top 5, just got into this album about a week ago), Dead Congregation, and Kanye West.

Cynic - Traced in Air

those got the most plays from me this year, tons of other stuff already mentioned were good as well.

Opeth-Watershed
Bloodbath-UnblessingThePurity
Bloodbath-TheFathomlessMastery
Jeff Loomis-ZeroOrderPhase
Kalmah-ForTheRevolution
Agalloch-TheWhite

ZeroOrderPhase is the first album I've heard in a good year or two that moved me to immediately purchase after downloading it. If you love 80s Marty Friedman/Cacophony/Tony Macalpine neoclassical it's a must buy.

I would recommend going through blabbermouth.net 's cd reviews, generally anything over 7.5 is worth checking out.

All these albums didn't come out in 2008, but I didn't get into them til the preceding year.

Opeth-Watershed
Sins of Thy Beloved- Lake of Sorrow
Bathory-Twilight of the Gods
Ayreon- The Human Equation
Falkenbach- ...Magni Blandinn Ok Megintiri...

I wished I had gotten Agalloch-The White EP, but I curse theendrecords.com. They will go out of business this year, Wotan be willingly. They are always having sales with hardly any restocking.

Is there another good place online to buy metal cheaply?

I asked that very question a few months back here and got several good replies.
