Devin Townsend Project

Post by neomanguy » Tue March 24th, 2009, 9:24 pm

So is anyone else looking forward to the releases coming from Devin Townsend this year? Hes planning on releasing 4 albums this year under "Devin Townsend Project". The first album "Ki" should be out this summer, theres a preview up on his Myspace.

From Wikipedia:
"Yeah, 4 records. An Appetizer, 2 meals and a desert. Ki is the appetizer...heavy chill. I start the next one the day after...then the next will be the symphony, then an ambient album. Tentatively, Ki is the mellow-ish intro to the story (a very pointed theme though, it's unnerving)... Addicted is the next one, heavy, fun and dance-y ...I like good choruses and dancing. Deconstruction is a treat for the syl and ziltoid fans...(and then some...damn...it's fucking nuts.) The ambient album, (sand theme) will close it off."

Personally, I am way fucking excited for this. Ocean Machine is probably my favorite album ever, and everything this man puts out is quality. Also, WTF NO MORE SKULLET.

He's a genius, pure and simple. And also sometimes quite insane.

I merely thought he was a genius before I met him....but I knew it afterward. I co-sponsored his performance (as DTB) at ProgPower .....umm....eight years ago? Wow.

He is also an extremely cool guy.

Now THIS I have to see. I might be the only person left with a skullet, now.

He hasn't released anything worth a shit since "Alien", so I'm not too excited about his Merzbow-like attempt to glut the market with soulless crap. A shame, too, since "Terria" and "The Human Equation" are two of my favorite albums EVER.

As long as none of them sound like the post-City SYL crap I'm interested.

So "Ki" has leaked. He described it as 'heavy chill', and thats pretty much spot on. The whole album is mellow, a handful of heavy/epic parts throughout. I'm definitely digging it so far. Apparently there arent too many Townsend fans on this board, but has anybody else checked this out?

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet....but I want to.

I'm wayyy behind on buying CDs (in several genres, not just metal), so unless I buy something crazy at the RennFaire, like, say, Mustis' leather armor, my pay from working there will probably go to CDs.
