What's your worst on stage mishap?

Post by Acidic Consumption » Thu May 14th, 2009, 2:23 pm

mine has to be my first time on stage, playing in Unrelenting Horror at the free show at Little Tree Studios. Didn't think about the need for a rug to stabalize my kit. I set up in front of the drum riser on the wooden stage and my kick drums were sliding all over the place, i was playing double bass with one leg stretched out and one in. It was horrible man. totally through me off my game and we had a rough set. The next week, after i bought a rug and a Pearl Icon Curved Rack for my kit. Made sure that shit never happened again. :-)

This was great. This was about 95. I was playing in a band called Damnage. I was still pretty new at this point and some of the original members came to see the 'new' line-up. I was about 19 and I was feeling the pressure. There was one song where I had a bit where I played by myself. About 5 seconds long. An eternity when something screws up. My wireless gave out. Before I could even get back to my amp, my tech was on the job. However, there was no way he was gonna get it all switched out to save that part in time. Come to find out, in my nervousness, I left my transmitter on and it killed the batteries.

I can only imagine what Troy (RIP) thought about the 'new' guitarist. haha.

Look on the bright side. At least you weren't electrocuted. :D

(The first time I saw Damnage was at the amphitheater in Peachtree City when Darrell got zapped.)

Worst for me? Kind of a tough call actually.

I almost got knocked unconscious at the Package CD release party. I threw my head forward, and Josh (bass) was slinging his bass up and back. His headstock collided violently with my temple and I saw stars. I finished the song...albeit crouching in the fetal position because I was afraid that if I stood up too quickly I'd pass the fuck out. I don't think that's the worst thing that's ever happened to me onstage, but definitely one of the most painful.

Worst was either the Package show at the 9 Lives show that ended in total chaos, beer, vomit and blood everywhere or the Soulscape show at the Roxy that ended in a full blown riot. ...Good times! haha

I remember them telling me about Darryl getting zapped. haha.

Geez.

There was one show where some skins started a fight with a little dude in the crowd. There were like 3 skins and just the one little dude. The one little dude made the three HUGE skins look VERY silly. haha. Their girlfriends had to bail them out with pepper spray. It got in the ventilation system. I didn't notice but I heard the instruments dropping out around me. I finally look around and I was the only one left on stage. Charlie was hacking and gagging off stage and so was Robby. Matt and Joe were red faced from it. Didn't get to me at all. I had ask what happened. haha. Weird. I don't know if I was standing in the right spot to not get affected or what. They had to clear the WreckRoom.

The Darryl thing was some shit dude. I was 3 feet from him when it happened. He was about to test his mic. He walked up to the mic stand, grabbed the mic and started smasm-ing out and fell backwards.

To this day I freak out when I get one of those grounding pops from a mic.

Ah, skinheads... How many concert stories start with "There was this group of skinheads..."

I've got plenty of those. It seems that skins and white power guys were much more of a problem in the 90's.

That was the one! I was actually there more to see Morgoth than Kreator. I liked them, but I had a buddy who was all about 'em. I was all about Ressurection Absurd/The Eternal Fall.
