Black metal documentary on Sundance tonight

Post by DeathfareDevil » Mon April 5th, 2010, 4:52 pm

Until the Light Takes Us will be on the Sundance Channel tonight at 8:00, for those interested in seeing yet another documentary about the 90's Norwegian black metal scene. I hear Fenriz is featured heavily, so that's reason enough to watch.

It would be nice if someone actually made a doc about the music, but I guess that's not the world we live in.

Oh, if you miss it, can't DVR it, and have insomnia, it comes on again at 3:50 in the morning.

Dude! Thanks!

Apparently, I was watching the Sundance Channel last night. Because I turned on the T.V. just now and Varg Vikernes was scowling at me.

You can always watch Once Upon a Time in Norway on youtube.

It's actually pretty interesting, mainly being from the perspective of one of the guys who left Mayhem after Deathcrush. Manheim, maybe.

A quick question -- was that early Ulver that was playing in the background when they were talking about the church burnings? I'm thinking of the series of scenes that ended with the people in raising the torches in a circle.

And what the fuck is Harmony Korine on about? Gummo was just a weird-ass movie, and that bit with him dancing in the L.A. gallery, in corpse-paint and clown wig, was just fucking bizarre.

Been a while since I saw it at the Plaza, so I'm not sure.

I have a feeling I don't get the Sundance channel, but I'll go take a look and maybe I'll get lucky for that later showing.

Interesting that Audrey E., one of the directors, didn't mention the Sundance screening anywhere on I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS or MySpace..... 8)

It is playing again at 3:50 a.m.

I wasn't able to catch the screening at the Plaza. I think my son was 5-weeks old, or something.

That? Thorns.

And yes, Harmony Korine makes me believe Asperger's Syndrome is real.

There was another Thorns song, as well, "Home," from the Grymyrk rehearsal tape/Stigma Diabolicum collection. Not sure when that song was played, because the only Thorns I've heard, sadly, is the s/t album, where the above youtube clip comes from. And even that album, I only have in mp3 format. I really, really need to get some Thorns into my collection.

As for Ulver songs, there was one from the Kveldssanger album, the acoustic/folky one, which I think was playing while Garm was talking. There were a few from their more modern era, but I can't remember when they were playing.

Thanks. I do not know Ulver and am not familiar with Thorns' full-length, although I've been meaning to pick it up for some time.
