You always have the option of making your own. I do. It's pretty damn cheap and easy. Wine is insanely easy to make. All you need is some natural fruit juice of some kind, preferably fresh pressed/squeezed, some sugar, some water, a little yeast, some type of airlock or pressure relief valve, and time for complete fermentation to occur. Liquor has a few more steps. Typically I'll use some yellow corn meal to ferment mash for whiskey and molasses to ferment for rum, but you can use lots of different things including homemade wine. Then once the mash is fermented about 2 or 3 weeks, I'll use a homemade still to condense the alcohol out of it. Shit comes out strong enough to peel paint. Perhaps I'll post recipes and instructions later if anyone is interested.

If I'm using molasses or honey, which are really thick and hard to dilute well in water, I'll heat the water (not boiling or anything) and slowly pour it into the pot of heating water as I stir it. By then, it should be mixed a lot better. Then I'll pour that off into the fermenting jug. If it's too hot, it will kill the yeast before it can multiply and begin consuming sugars to create the ethanol. So if it's too hot, I'll add some chilled water to bring the temperature down to a suitable level.

Using a balloon is like the poor mans way of making an airlock. It usually works, but if something goes wrong, it can suck the balloon back into the jug and the latex might contaminate the batch. If you check on the batch once or twice a day, it shouldn't be a problem. But if something's gone wrong and it hasn't fermented properly and air has been allowed to come back in on the batch, it can set up molds and bacteria that can make you sick as hell. You'd be better off using a specially designed airlock made for beverage fermentation, or at least rig up a water airlock. That's where you seal the jug air tight with a tube running out of the top and into a glass of water. This is a much better method because the jug itself won't have any forces of pressure acting on it, the carbon dioxide will be allowed to flow out freely through the water as bubbles.

Also, 6 months isn't exactly correct. You can have a batch ready in probably as little as 2 weeks. Usually the fermentation takes place in the first 2 or 3 weeks. After that, there isn't much sugars left for the yeast to feed on. You should be able to hear it fizzing for the first 2 weeks as the yeast consumes the sugars and gives off carbon dioxide. After that, the fizzing will taper off and fermentation will slow considerably. 6 months would probably allow the flavors to mature completely, but it would be perfectly fine to drink it after maybe 3 weeks from the date you began fermenting.

Also, the video leaves out the fact that it's best to filter it before drinking. Obviously you don't want chunks of oranges and whatever other fruit you put in there. Sometimes a thick goopey sludge will settle on the bottom as well, a gluten like substance. It's best to filter out the batch with something like cheesecloth before attempting to drink it. I actually use a long tube to siphon off the liquid into another container until I get to about where the bottom sediment would be, and then I discard that portion. Trust me, you don't really wanna drink that part. It's safe to drink, it just has a really funky texture and sometimes tastes weird.

hey there everyone! My name is Fernanda and I'm a 26 year old metalhead hailing from Santa Catarina, south Brazil....only...I'll be moving to atlanta in january! Sorry this is gonna be a bit of a rant...

I started looking for a listing of metal events in the city, then I stumbled upon the radio website and then here. So I thought hey, might as well find some company to these gigs and stuff.

I'm staying for at least 6 months, probably more, and the reason I'm moving is work... my company is sending there to represent the art team, I'm a digital artist at a slots/bingo gaming company here in brazil, and as you can see, and to my luck, theyre expanding... I like the town where I live (florianopolis) but leaving the country and doing some travelling was always a dream for me. Getting paid to do that, even better.

Other than metal, my other passions in life include cats, beer, videogames and visual art, specially comics. I drew and published some already, none exactly metal related, but i almost always include some metalhead NPC's in the background, patches, shirts or something. And in that fashion, I did even manage to put King Diamond twice in a children's book compilation. WHICH, also happens to be released in your country by february I think. So if any of you here likes comics/have a kid needing a gift, this comic is available as an E-Book here http://www.wowio.com/users/product.asp?bookid=231712 and in February 2012 it will be available in USA in comics shops. It'll be in the DIAMOND catalogue by december. And I hope i'm not crossing any line here in shameless self promotion, because believe me, this comic won't make me rich, preeeetty far from that.

excuse my crummy english and repeated text, this post is actually a lot copy/pasted from the coven worldwide (kd/mercyful fate forum)

If any of you guys here have a Deviantart account, you can add me there , http://queen-diamond.deviantart.com/ . My I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS is my full name, Fernanda Chiella, and you can add me at msn fernandachiella@gmail.com . You can add me there and drop me a line about the city and what to expect when I get there. Or, I'll see you guys in some gig, casino, comic book shop , or the local roller Derby Bouts which Im REALLY looking forward to seeing as well ;)

Welcome queen-diamond!! Sorry that took so long, I've been pawing through your deviant art page. When you meet me I will have this tattoo:

Also, thank you for the word "putaria." It's the perfect name for this behavior. I <3 it.

These forum folks are shy at shows, so you're gonna have to march up and introduce yourself. And if you go to ATL roller derby, make sure you get free beers from my husband's cooler in the parking lot.

Is your company bringing slot machines to Atlanta? Hot dog!!

Hey ryan, moloc! Diana, are you a Derby girl/woman yourself?
I discoverred derby through some webcomics, like Lucy knisley - http://comics.lucyknisley.com/2010/04/starstruck-5/ (this is awesome) and danielle corsetto 's "girls with slingshots" http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1082/ .
I read a little about it, then i watched Whip it! and I was hooked. I think there's some kind of RDerby actually goin on in my town rght now, I was willing to check it out but then i heard I was moving to Atlanta ... and oh well. I saw the League's website and I decided to see the 'real deal' first. Seems pretty cool!
Also, Captain pendencia, haha, theres a nice character, he's the super hero that only brings people trouble instead of solving them. If youre gonna tattoo it I'll give up on the idea of printing that drawing on underwear...ahaha.

Other than Derby, any overkill fan around here? Cause I love the band, never got a chance to see them live (missed them here a few weeks ago for the dumbest reason) then I see here that theyre playing in Atlanta may 10... Its my fucking BIRTHDAY!! man this MUST be satan's work in progress, no doubt about it.

I don't like Overkill. It's too much kill. I don't like Megadeth either. It's too much death. But I do like regular old Death. It's just the right amount of death I like.

Welcome to here.

Well, I was sort of the Vice President of ARG and Captain of the Sake Tuyas the first year. Then I tore cartilage in my right knee about two games before we won the championship, effectively ending my derby "career." Which was fine with me because if I had to sit through one more four hour meeting where everyone cried and talked about their feelings and no one made any decisions, I was gonna roll up to the bout strapped with a suicide bomb. After I "retired" they moved the bouts to Saturday, and I work on Saturdays, so I never go to the bouts anymore. But my husband is a big fan of boobs and short skirts, so he still goes. If you can't find him, feel free to march up to one of the old-timers in the parking lot and say "Rollerhate told me I can drink your beer!" Maybe you'll get lucky and one of them will remember me. I STILL haven't seen "Whip It!" even though Skate Outta Compton did stunt work on it. I'm a shitty friend. :D

PLEASE print Captain Pendencia on underwear!! I would wear the hell out of those. :D

I dunno if you meant death metal or death the band. Well while i'm not so big on death metal, I do respect it a lot and like one or other band, and I made this when i was 16 years old - http://queen-diamond.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d3fpy4
