It's different because it's 60 fucking feet tall on a loudass sound system. As the night went on and the smuggled beers kicked in, things got pretty interesting during Slayer.
I thought it was cool as fuck and may try to hit it again Thursday night, if life allows.
Anthrax were solid. Sounded like Joey dropped his register a bit. Cool enough. Not a fan of the lead guitar player (Rob Cavallo?). He overplayed the old solos but added nothing new of value. Still, it was a cool thing to see. Wonder why Joey brought out the head dress several songs after Indians?
Megadeth brought it, but it seemed like the tracks from RIP were mixed in with other shit. Man, that new lead player can fucking shred and make every note sing and come through clearly. I love Drover's open handed drum style. Just badass!
SLAYER!! What can be said? They are fucking Slayer and fucking amazing. But what the hell happened to Hanneman? He looks like the comic book guy and his pants are bagged to his knees? I know that everytime I see Slayer he progresses a bit more in this direction, but damn....The crowd started get nuts about this time. Especially some drunken yahoo down front who was turned around facing the crowd and doing some kind of interpretive dance/conductor shit. Yeesh...
Metallica? Whatever. They started off with a bunch of shit off RTL that they played at about double time. It sounded over rushed and mushy. I bailed as soon as they kicked into something not off the first four records.
