New Triptykon EP

Post by sleyja » Tue August 10th, 2010, 5:25 pm

"TRIPTYKON, the group formed by former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Tom Gabriel Warrior, will follow its highly acclaimed debut album, "Eparistera Daimones", with the release of "Shatter", an all-new five-track EP, on October 25 (Europe) and October 26 (North America).

At a playing time of approximately 28 minutes, "Shatter" will consist almost entirely of previously unreleased music.

The EP's track listing is as follows:

01. Shatter
02. I Am The Twilight
03. Crucifixus

(Recorded during the "Eparistera Daimones" album sessions in 2009. "Crucifixus" appears in a newly mixed and mastered version.)

04. Circle Of The Tyrants (live)
05. Dethroned Emperor (live)

(Cover versions of CELTIC FROST songs, recorded live during TRIPTYKON's headliner performance at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands, on April 16, 2010. "Dethroned Emperor" features guest lead vocals by Nocturno Culto of DARKTHRONE/SARKE.)

The "Shatter" EP will be available through Century Media Records (under license from Prowling Death Records Ltd.) as CD, digital download, and 12" vinyl (at 33? rpm). The EP will further contain the lyrics to all songs as well as detailed liner notes and credits."

I've heard the song "Shatter". The intro has a drum line that reminds me of something from Dale Crover. It is among their more experimental songs. I do not know "I Am the Twilight.". "Crucificux" was on their MySpace page for ages and is a reworking of "Totengott". It will be interesting to hear this new version.

Of course, "Circle of the Tyrants" and "Dethroned Emperor" need no introduction.

EDIT: Somehow, I missed the fact that Nocturno fucking Culto (aka "Ted") is delivering the vocals on "Dethroned Emperor".

The video for the song "Shatter."

I don't quite know what to think about the song -- its sounds like Dale Crover and Al Jourgenson got together. But the video is pretty damn cool.

Fuck, I'm so far behind. I don't even have the first record yet.

I'm pretty sure that is Blackie, from Voivod, in the background. This was taken around the time of the WWIII festival in Montreal, at Voivod's practice space.

Club 688 changed it's name to The Rollick in 1986. It didn't last very long. Didn't it become Weekends around '89 or so?

Yeah, Weekends was around that time and then there was a brief reappearance of the 688 name in the late 90s or early 00s.

Here's something interesting about the 688.

688 ruled. I saw Black Flag there twice, Butthole Surfers, and Husker Du. Loved the Marvel Comics murals out front too.

OK so this EP is pee-you. Ditto for the new Autopsy. Goddam, what's with the crystal clear recording on that shit? Reifert's vocals are actually INTELLIGIBLE... Not for me.

I haven't given it a serious listen, but I've heard the two new songs and I'm not exactly bowled over.

Not down with this band. It's too shiny, tricked out, chromed over. No wonder their live sets are 50 percent Frost material...
